BC Khanduri Dies at 91 in Dehradun

Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, a former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, died in Dehradun on 19 May 2026 at the age of 91. He was a retired Major General in the Indian Army and served as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for two terms, from 2007 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2012.

Political Career

Khanduri represented the Garhwal parliamentary constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha. He also served as Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Military Background

Khanduri held the rank of Major General before entering full-time politics. He was known by the sobriquet “General Sahab” in public life.
