Banglar Yuva Sathi Scheme 2026 Announced

West Bengal has unveiled the Banglar Yuva Sathi Scheme 2026, a major welfare initiative aimed at supporting unemployed youth across the state. Announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during the interim Budget, the scheme will provide a monthly allowance of ₹1,500 to eligible candidates. Though initially scheduled for an August rollout, the programme has been advanced and will officially launch on April 1, 2026.

The move reflects the state government’s attempt to address rising youth unemployment and provide interim financial support to educated job seekers.

Objective and Scope of the Scheme

The Banglar Yuva Sathi Scheme is conceived as a transitional support mechanism. It is designed to assist educated but unemployed individuals during the period between completing education and securing employment. The monthly stipend aims to reduce financial stress while candidates search for suitable opportunities.

The government has clarified that the allowance is not a permanent income source. Instead, it functions as a temporary safety net during a critical stage of career development.

Application Timeline and Rollout Plan

Applications will be accepted from February 15 to February 26, 2026. Registration can be completed through designated local camps as well as online portals. The first disbursement of funds will commence on April 1, 2026, coinciding with the official launch date.

The fast-tracked timeline underscores administrative urgency and the state’s intent to ensure timely implementation.

Eligibility Criteria and Conditions

To qualify, applicants must be permanent residents of West Bengal and aged between 21 and 40 years. A minimum educational qualification of passing the Class 10 (Secondary) examination is mandatory. Candidates must be unemployed at the time of application.

The scheme excludes beneficiaries already receiving financial assistance under other state welfare programmes. However, students availing scholarships such as Aikyasree, Medhasree, Sikhasree, and the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Scholarship remain eligible for the allowance.
