Assam Launches Foreign Language Training For Youth

The Assam government recently launched the Chief Minister’s Foreign Languages Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT). This scheme aims to train the youth of Assam in foreign languages, starting with Japanese. The initiative is designed to enhance employment opportunities abroad and strengthen international ties.
Background and Launch
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the programme to empower Assam’s youth. The first batch consists of 180 candidates who will receive Japanese language training. The course also includes cultural education, job placement support, and financial aid. The Assam government and the Government of Japan share the programme’s cost.
Objectives of CM-FLIGHT
The primary goal is to prepare youth for global careers. Language skills will open doors to jobs in sectors such as construction, nursing care, and food service. The initiative also aims to deepen Indo-Japan relations and people-to-people connections. It reflects Assam’s commitment to globalising its workforce.
Training and Partnerships
Training will take place at the North East Skill Centre in Guwahati. The programme is delivered through three international partners – ASEAN ONE Co. Ltd., Jaceex Ventures LLP, and Meiko Career Partners Co. Ltd. Candidates will be trained to achieve JFT-Basic or JLPT N4 Japanese language proficiency.
Economic and Diplomatic Impact
The scheme is expected to boost Assam’s economy by increasing youth employability abroad. It also supports bilateral cooperation with Japan. Discussions are ongoing to expand collaborations with other countries. This initiative marks Assam’s role in India’s global workforce development.
Future Prospects
The government plans to extend foreign language training to other languages and sectors. By reducing course costs, the scheme ensures accessibility to a wider group of youth. The programme aims to create a skilled talent pool ready for global challenges and opportunities.
