Army Clears Indigenous Production of MEPRO X6 Sights
The Indian Army selected the MEPRO X6 telescopic sight as the daytime optic for in-service NEGEV machine guns on 15 June 2026. The programme involves indigenous manufacture in India under a Transfer of Technology agreement between Meprolight and RRP Defense, with Bharat Electronics Limited as the prime contractor.
MEPRO X6 Telescopic Sight
The MEPRO X6 is a compact x6 telescopic day sight with a stated effective range of up to 1,000 metres. Telescopic sights are optical aiming devices used on small arms and machine guns for target acquisition at longer distances than iron sights.
NEGEV Light Machine Gun Family
The NEGEV is a light machine gun family developed by Israel Weapons Industries. The NEGEV 7 is a modernised variant chambered in 7.62×51 mm ammunition, and it is being produced in India under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat frameworks.
Industrial and Contract Framework
Meprolight signed a Transfer of Technology agreement with RRP Defense for local manufacture of the MEPRO X6. RRP Defense will supply the sights to Bharat Electronics Limited, which functions as the programme’s prime contractor.
Production and Delivery Background
PLR Systems, a joint venture between Israel Weapons Industries and the Adani Group, delivered the first batch of 2,000 NEGEV 7.62×51 light machine guns in April 2026. The larger contract covers 41,000 units.
