APEDA Launches BHARATI to Support Agri-Food Startups, Exports
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority has launched a new initiative to strengthen India’s agri-food and agri-tech startup ecosystem, with a focus on innovation-led export growth. The programme aims to create fresh global opportunities for young entrepreneurs amid evolving international trade dynamics.
BHARATI Initiative and Its Objectives
The initiative, titled BHARATI—Bharat’s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement—has been introduced by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. According to APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, the programme is designed to empower agri-sector startups by connecting innovation with export readiness and global market access.
Global Exposure for Startups
Under the BHARATI framework, APEDA will select the top 10 agri-food and agri-tech startups and provide them opportunities to showcase their products on international platforms. This exposure is expected to help startups attract overseas buyers, investors, and strategic partners, while also promoting India’s value-added agricultural products in global markets.
Strong Outlook for Agri Exports
Despite ongoing global trade uncertainties, India’s agricultural exports continue to show resilience. APEDA-promoted exports recorded a growth of about 7 per cent during April–November 2025–26, reaching $18.6 billion. In the previous financial year, exports stood at $28.5 billion. Officials indicated that total APEDA exports are expected to cross the $30 billion mark in the current fiscal year.
