Andhra Pradesh Wins National Energy Conservation Award

Andhra Pradesh has clinched the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award for the fourth consecutive year, reaffirming its position as a national leader in energy efficiency. The achievement reflects the State’s sustained progress in implementing comprehensive energy conservation measures across multiple sectors, backed by strong institutional coordination and policy-driven reforms.

Fourth Consecutive National Honour

Chief Secretary K Vijayanand stated that the latest recognition places Andhra Pradesh among the most consistent and forward-looking States in promoting energy efficiency. At the National Energy Conservation Award–2025, the State secured the First Prize in the Group II category, demonstrating measurable outcomes across buildings, industry, municipal services, agriculture, DISCOMs and transport sectors.

Leadership and Institutional Framework

The Chief Secretary attributed the success to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the support of Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar. Coordinated efforts by government departments, consumers and stakeholders were central to the achievement. He also congratulated the AP State Energy Conservation Mission and its CEO S Nagalakshmi for driving programme execution and monitoring across sectors.

Policies and Sectoral Initiatives

The State has implemented a range of targeted initiatives, including the Integrated Clean Energy Policy, AP Industrial Development Policy 4.0 (2024–29), and sector-specific policies for MSMEs, electronics and food processing. Energy Conservation Cells with nodal officers have been established across departments. Key actions include enforcement of the Energy Conservation Building Code, energy efficiency projects in schools, hospitals and ITIs, adoption of advanced technologies in MSMEs, and energy-saving interventions in municipal pumping systems.

Recognition, Scores and Future Outreach

According to APSECM, Andhra Pradesh improved its State Energy Efficiency Index score by 2.3 per cent, rising from 87.25 in SEEI–2024 to 89.25 in SEEI–2025. The President of India Droupadi Murmu will present the award on National Energy Conservation Day at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, with APSPDCL CMD L Sivashankar receiving it on behalf of the State. APSECM has announced plans to further expand outreach among departments, students, industries and communities to unlock the State’s full energy-saving potential.
