Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham MoU with CSIR–NIScPR Strengthens Research Collaboration

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research to deepen collaboration in research, science communication, and science-and-technology policy initiatives. The agreement was formalised during a two-day national workshop convened by NITI Aayog, reflecting a growing emphasis on embedding research and development within state institutions.

Focus on Applied and Policy-Oriented Research

The MoU aims to foster joint research programmes, policy studies, capacity building, and dissemination of scientific knowledge. The collaboration is expected to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and improve science communication practices. It also aligns academic research with national development goals, ensuring that research outcomes translate into tangible public benefits.

NITI Aayog Emphasises Technology for Social Impact

Speaking at the workshop, Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, highlighted that research at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is closely linked to real-world challenges faced by ordinary citizens. He underscored the Prime Minister’s view that many societal problems can be addressed through purposeful application of technology, calling for research outputs to align with national priorities and public welfare.

Strengthening State-Level Innovation Ecosystems

The workshop, titled “Sustaining Innovation: Embedding R&D in State Institutions,” brought together policymakers, scientists, and representatives from academic and research bodies. Discussions focused on building resilient innovation frameworks at the state level, improving institutional capacity, and fostering collaboration between universities, research organisations, and governments.

Tamil Nadu’s Leadership in Patents and GI Development

The workshop was organised in collaboration with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology. Prof. Dr S. Vincent, Member Secretary of the Council, noted that Tamil Nadu files nearly 5,000 to 6,000 patent applications annually, placing it at the forefront nationally. He acknowledged Amrita’s significant contribution and reaffirmed state government support for geographical indication products developed by the university.
