The 53rd Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial Indoor Tournament 2025 commenced at CSIR–Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), Dhanbad, marking the beginning of one of the most anticipated inter-laboratory sporting events in the CSIR network. The tournament brings together scientific minds from across India, blending research excellence with sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Grand Inauguration at CSIR-CIMFR

The event opened with a ceremonial march-past featuring 83 participants from multiple CSIR laboratories across the country. The lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed, symbolising unity, enlightenment, and the enduring spirit of scientific collaboration. Dignitaries, staff, and guests gathered to celebrate this blend of science and sport, setting a festive tone for the tournament.

Participating Laboratories and Representation

Participants represent a diverse range of CSIR institutions, including the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi; National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune; Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Uttarakhand; Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR), Lucknow; Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur; and National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa. The wide representation underscores CSIR’s emphasis on unity through intellectual and physical pursuits.

In his welcome address, Dr. Arvind Kumar Mishra, Director and Staff Club President of CSIR-CIMFR, expressed pride in hosting the event. The event also encourages a balance between professional excellence and personal well-being among scientists and staff.
