44th Junior National Kho Kho Championship Begins in Bengaluru
The 44th Junior National Kho Kho Championship commenced at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Gunjur, Bengaluru, bringing together nearly 1,000 young athletes from states and union territories across India. The national-level event features boys’ and girls’ categories and marks a significant platform for nurturing grassroots talent in one of India’s indigenous sports.
Strong Participation and Competitive Start
The opening day witnessed close to 40 matches, reflecting the depth of participation and competitive spirit among junior players. Teams are competing under a league-cum-knockout format, designed to ensure adequate match exposure before the elimination rounds. The semifinals are scheduled for 3 January, followed by the finals on 4 January, promising an intense conclusion to the championship.
Inauguration and Organisational Presence
The tournament was formally inaugurated by former minister “H. Nagesh”. Officials from the “Kho Kho Federation of India” and the “Karnataka State Kho Kho Association” were present at the ceremony, underlining institutional support for the sport. The event is being conducted with standardised officiating and logistical arrangements aligned with national federation guidelines.

KKFI President “Sudhanshu Mittal” stated that the junior nationals provide young players with valuable national exposure and learning opportunities. KSKKA President “Lokeshwara” highlighted improvements in training methods, coaching support, and playing facilities, which have enhanced preparedness and performance standards among emerging athletes.
