“Sammakkaa Saarakka” or "Jatara": Largest tribal religious congregation of world began
In Andhra Pradesh, “Sammakkaa Saarakka” Fair or “Jatara”, the largest tribal religious congregation in the world, began at Medaram in Warangal district of the Telangana region.
Sammakkaa Saarakka is a 4-day biennial fair which is celebrated to pay tribute to the tribal warrior Sammakka and her daughter Saaralamma Saaralamma who sacrificed their lives while fighting against the army of Kakatiya dynasty to protect their people. Crores of devotees from far-flung areas viz. Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu participated in the fair.
