Punjab Aam Aadmi Clinics

The World Health Organization says that more than 65% of Indians are making out-of-pocket health expenditures. This means, they are paying for their health expenditures from their own pockets. Also, only 17% of the citizens have health insurance. To solve these two problems, health insurance, and expenditure, the Aam Aadmi Party launched the Mohalla Clinics in 2015 when they formed the Government in Delhi. The clinic provides free medicines and diagnostics. The initiative has been a huge success. Now the party is planning to open 400 such clinics in Punjab.

What is the plan?

The Mohalla Clinic also called the Aam Aadmi Clinics is to be set up in the state of Punjab. Of the planned 400 clinics, 318 are to be established in rural areas of Punjab. With this, the number of Mohalla clinics in Punjab is to increase to 500.

The Aam Aadmi Party won the Punjab General Assembly Election in 2022. Bhagwant Mann is the current Chief Minister of Punjab. The party is trying to bring in similar changes as that of Delhi. With the huge success of Mohalla Clinics, the Aam Aadmi Party is launching it in Punjab. 97% of the people taking treatment at the Mohalla Clinics in Delhi report that the treatment is far better than other facilities in the territory.

Out-of-pocket expenses are those expenses that will not be reimbursed by the government or by any other health insurance company.
