S. “Soma” Somasegar, an Indian-origin technology executive and former Microsoft leader, died at the age of 59. He worked at Microsoft for 27 years after joining the company in 1989 and later served as managing director at Madrona Venture Group in Seattle.
Career at Microsoft
Somasegar worked on Microsoft products including Windows NT, Visual Studio, and .NET. He founded Microsoft’s India Development Center in Hyderabad in 1998, and the centre became one of Microsoft’s largest engineering hubs outside the United States.
Role at Madrona Venture Group
Somasegar became a managing director at Madrona Venture Group in January 2017. His investment focus included cloud infrastructure, developer tools, and artificial intelligence, and he backed companies such as Snowflake and UiPath.
