Rajasthan Secondary Towns Development Sector Project

In a significant development, the central government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) recently signed a loan agreement amounting to USD 200 million as additional financing for the ongoing Rajasthan Secondary Towns Development Sector Project. This financial boost aims to address basic infrastructure gaps in secondary towns of Rajasthan, ushering in improved living conditions and urban services.

Reducing Infrastructure Gaps: The Purpose of Additional Financing

The primary purpose of the additional financing for the Rajasthan Secondary Towns Development Sector Project is to reduce basic infrastructure gaps prevalent in secondary towns across the state. By addressing these deficiencies, the project aims to enhance the quality of life for residents and promote sustainable urban development.

Innovative and Climate-Resilient Solutions: Incorporating Progress

The project is set to incorporate innovative and climate-resilient solutions to expand urban services. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices, the development initiatives seek to bolster the resilience of these towns to climate challenges and future-proof their infrastructure.

Connecting Households to Water Services: Progress Update

As part of the ongoing project, an impressive milestone has been achieved, with a total of 68,098 households now connected to water services in selected secondary towns across Rajasthan. This significant improvement has resulted in enhanced access to clean and safe drinking water for a considerable number of residents.

Extensive Water Supply and Sewer Pipe Laying

The ongoing project has seen the laying of 1,451 kilometers of water supply pipes and 1,110 kilometers of sewer pipes. This extensive infrastructure development has been instrumental in improving the water distribution and sewage systems in the targeted towns.

Improvement of Water Supply Systems in Seven Towns

With the additional financing, the project aims to improve water supply systems in at least seven towns. This will involve converting groundwater sources to surface water, replacing approximately 700 kilometers of leaking water pipes, and installing 1,400 kilometers of new water supply pipelines. Furthermore, the financing will provide 77,000 households with water meter connections, enhancing the efficiency of water usage and distribution.

Establishing New Water Treatment Plants

The amount received as additional financing will also be utilized to establish three new water treatment plants. This significant step will enhance water purification processes, ensuring a reliable supply of clean water to the towns.

Uplifting Sanitation Systems in Eight Towns

The project seeks to uplift sanitation systems in at least eight towns by undertaking crucial initiatives. This includes restoring approximately 580 kilometers of sewers and building seven sewage treatment plants equipped with co-treatment units to process fecal sludge and septage. Additionally, at least 54,000 households will be connected to the sewage system, leading to improved sanitation conditions.
