The 26-year-old Miss Mexico Andrea Meza was crowned Miss Universe in Florida. The event returned to television this year, after it was cancelled in 2020 for the first time, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Andrea Meza finished first ahead of the Brazilian and Peruvian finalists. Another contestant Miss Myanmar used the stage time to draw attention to the military coup in her country.

Elon Musk-owned SpaceX has announced a new partnership with Google to strengthen the use of its satellite Internet connectivity.
Under the partnership, Google Cloud would deliver data, cloud services, and applications to its enterprise customers, by using Starlink’s high-speed broadband Internet. SpaceX will locate Starlink ground stations and will enable secure delivery of data through Google cloud.

A team of zoologists belonging to Mizoram University have spotted Doria’s foam-nesting treefrog in the buffer area of Mizoram’s Pualreng Wildlife Sanctuary. This discovery was made by them in June 2020, which has now been published in a leading journal – Reptiles & Amphibians.
This species has characters like changing skin shade and whipping up foam to protect eggs. It is believed that this frog has reappeared in India after 108 years.

Wildlife experts have observed that common cranes have returned to Ireland for shelter and breeding, after a period of 300 years.
This is believed to be a sign that our environment is improving. The breeding location is kept confidential to protect the cranes from unlawful hands.

Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito, when infected with a dengue virus. Aedes aegypti, the yellow fever mosquito, can spread dengue fever, chikungunya, Zika fever, Mayaro and yellow fever viruses.
National Dengue Day is observed in India on May 16 with the recommendation of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has signed a contract worth USA 1.78 billion with Petropars Group for the development of Farzad-B Gas Field located in Iran.
ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) owns 40 per cent participating interest (PI) in the block, in which gas discovery was first made by a consortium led by ONGC. It has now lost development rights for the gas field in Iran to Iranian Petropars Group.

United Launch Alliance (ULA) is a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Atlas V, an expendable launch system, which was originally designed by Lockheed Martin, now being operated by ULA.
Recently, ULA Atlas V rocket lifted off with the fifth Space-Based Infrared System satellite for the United States Space Force. It was launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved the self-use Rapid Antigen Test for Covid-19 developed by Mylab Discovery Solutions.
The test has been developed in India and is named as CoviSelf. Symptomatic individuals and immediate contacts of confirmed cases can use this self-use, as per ICMR guidelines. ICMR also warned that those who are symptomatic and test negative by RAT should get tested by RTPCR.

Union Ministry of Ayush has operationalised a dedicated helpline to provide AYUSH-based solutions for the challenges of Covid-19.
The community support toll-free number is 14443. The helpline is operational across the country from 6 am to 12 midnight-all days of a week.Through the helpline, experts from different streams of Ayush, would be available to address queries of the general public.

The Allen Coral Atlas is led by Asner Lab to map and monitor the world’s coral reefs using satellites and field programs.
It has recently released the world’s first real-time, satellite-based global coral reef bleaching monitoring system. The System provides a comprehensive picture of changes to coral reefs over time. This information would be used for conservation of coral reefs.
