The 4th India-Swiss Financial Dialogue was organised in a virtual manner and was attended by top level financial delegates of the two nations.
Indian delegation was led by the Secretary Economic Affairs Ajay Seth, while his counterpart was Ms. Daniela Stoffel, State Secretary for International Finance. Both the delegation shared their experiences on aspects including investments, International Financial Services Centre Authority etc.

The market regulator – Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has framed a new regulation that top 1,000 listed firms will have to formulate a dividend distribution policy.
This has been issued as a part of strengthening corporate governance practices and disclosure requirements among companies. SEBI has also given a detailed regulation about the constitution of Risk Management Committee (RMC) in listed companies.

The Market regulator – Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), has proposed rationalisation of the definition of ‘promoter group’. It has proposed to move towards the concept of ‘person in control’.
This has been communicated in a consultative paper, and SEBI has sought for comments from the public on this proposal, by June 10th 2021.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced Malerkotla as the state’s new district. After a long-pending demand of the people, Malerkotla is named as the 23rd district of the state.
Malerkotla is a Muslim majority town and it was a part of Sangrur district. At the time of the country’s Independence Punjab had 13 districts.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) ship Okeanos Explorer departed for a two-week expedition led by NOAA Ocean Exploration. NOAA is an American scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce.
The new class of submersible robot called Orpheus, will showcase a system to identify scientific features on the seafloor. This Terrain-relative navigation was used in NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance Mars rover, for the precision touch down on the Mars.

The Asian Development Bank has committed a record USD 3.92 billion in sovereign loans for 13 projects to India in 2020.
The loans include USD 1.8 billion in COVID-19 related projects to support the government’s response. ADB also granted funds to support the West Bengal government’s fiscal consolidation programme.

The International Telecommunication Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations, headquartered at Geneva, Switzerland. World Telecommunication Day is celebrated annually on 17th May since 1969.
On this day the International Telecommunication Union or ITU was founded and the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in 1865. The theme of World Tele-communication Day 2021 is: Accelerating digital transformation in challenging times.

India’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of India releases the ‘State of the Economy’ report along with its monthly bulletin.
As per the recent report for the month of April, it said that the impact of the second wave on the real economy appears limited so far in comparison with the first wave. It also highlighted the highest collection of GST in April 2021.

The theme of International Museum Day this year is – The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine.

Mr. Shahid Jameel, the eminent virologist who was the head of “Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortia (INSACOG)” – an advisory group to the Indian Government, has stepped down from the post and has tendered his resignation. He has not stated any reason for this decision.
INSACOG is a group of 10 laboratories in India which has been tasked with combating evolving variants of the coronavirus.
