Notes:
The Cabinet of Punjab Government has given an approval for the Punjab Prison Rules, 2021, under the provisions of Prison Act 1894. This new set of regulations would replace the existing Prison Rules which was last revised in the year 1996.
The Punjab Government is of the view that the existing prison rules are outdated and there is an immediate need to upgrade the regulations.

Nepal’s Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli has formed a minority government after opposition parties failed to form a coalition. He has become the Prime Minister for the third time.
The 43rd PM had earlier lost a vote of confidence in Parliament. President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Mr Oli as Prime Minister, as he is the leader of the largest party in Parliament. He is the Parliamentary leader of Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML).

‘International Day of Living Together in Peace’ is observed by the United Nations on May 16, every year.
It is aimed to serve as a means of mobilizing the efforts of the international community to promote peace, tolerance and solidarity. The 2021 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”.

The Union Commerce Ministry has initiated an anti-dumping investigation against the import of solar cells from China, Thailand and Vietnam.
To boost domestic manufacturing, the Centre had imposed 25% safeguard duty on solar imports from China and Malaysia. Solar cells are the basic ingredient used in the manufacturing of solar modules and Chinese products are sold cheaper than Indian counterparts.

Simorgh, named after a mythical Persian bird is Iran’s strongest supercomputer launched till date. It was developed domestically by Tehran’s Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT),
The supercomputer has a performance capacity of 0.56 petaflops at present and will reach one petaflops in two months.

UN Global Road Safety Week (UNGRSW) is a biennial global road safety campaign hosted by WHO in the month of May.
The theme for the 6th UNGRSW, which is to be held 17-23 May 2021, is Streets for Life #Love30. It calls for 30 km/h default speed limits to be imposed wherever people live, walk and play in all parts of the world.

After the Mali Prime Minister Moctar Ouane resigned, he was immediately reappointed as the Prime Minister, according to the office of the interim president.
Ouane was named prime minister after military officers ousted the elected president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in August. Under the threat of international sanctions, the military handed power to a caretaker government.

Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito, when infected with a dengue virus. Aedes aegypti, the yellow fever mosquito, can spread dengue fever, chikungunya, Zika fever, Mayaro and yellow fever viruses.
National Dengue Day is observed in India on May 16 with the recommendation of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

US President Joe Biden’s administration approved the sale of $735 million in precision-guided weapons to Israel.
The sale of Joint Direct Attack Munitions, or JDAMs, made by Boeing Co comes at the time of the fierce violence between Israel and Palestinian militants.

The Union Finance Ministry, on the recommendation of the Panchayati Raj Ministry, released Rs 8,923.8 crore to 25 states for providing grant to rural local bodies.
The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance released the first installment of the Basic (Untied) Grants. It may be utilized among other things for various prevention and mitigation measures needed to combat the Covid pandemic
