King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands apologised for his country’s role in slavery and asked for forgiveness during a historic speech at an event to commemorate the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Dutch colonies.
The king’s speech followed Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s apology late last year. The government is establishing a 200-million-euro fund for initiatives that tackle the legacy of slavery in the Netherlands and its former colonies.

As per Kenya’s proposed National Health Insurance Fund Regulations (NHIF) of 2023, employed individuals in the country will soon be mandated to contribute 2.75% of their monthly income to NHIF. The NHIF was chosen by the government as the key executor of UHC due to its extensive experience in health insurance and existing infrastructure.

Metagenomes refer to the collective genetic material of bacteria and fungi present in samples taken from the environment.
A study that analyzed 1,589 metagenomes from 26 countries had indicated that the high prevalence of antibiotic resistance in resource-limited settings contributes to ARG-related fatalities.

The picturesque hill station located in Uttarakhand will be renamed as Jaswantgarh, paying homage to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, a brave recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra and one of the distinguished heroes who fought in the 1962 war against China.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will head the NATO for another year, after his contract was extended again.
Mr Stoltenberg’s time as secretary general was due to end in October while his term had already been extended three times. Norwegian-born Mr Stoltenberg was an economist and former Prime Minister and the announcement comes a week before the next NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

A teenager in Kerala recently died after he contracted a rare brain-eating amoeba called Naegleria fowleri while swimming in a stream near his house.
Naegleria fowleri is a rare but extremely dangerous organism that can cause a fatal brain infection called primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).

The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has recently constituted a five-member working group for implementing the recommendations of the Reserve Bank of India’s on “working of the Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs)”.
The Group has been constituted at the aegis of the Reserve Bank of India.The Group comprises Ajit Kumar, MD and CEO, Secondary Loan Market Association (SLMA); Hari Hara Mishra, CEO, Association of ARCs in India; Mythili Balasubramanian, Executive Director, Edelweiss ARC; and senior officials from State Bank of India (Dharmendra Pali) and ICICI Bank (Anupama Ranade).

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI’s) inter-departmental group is currently working on a roadmap towards the internationalization of the rupee.
This comes in light of the economic sanctions imposed by the US on Russia.

The Haryana government has introduced a monthly pension program – Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) scheme of ₹2,750 for low-income unmarried individuals aged 45 to 60.
Additionally, widowed individuals between the ages of 40 and 60, with an annual income below ₹3 lakh, will also receive the same monthly pension amount.
