India has been elected to three bodies of the UN Economic and Social Council recently.
These three bodies include – Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, Executive Board of the World Food Programme and Executive Board of the U.N. Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). India will hold these positions for a three year term in all these bodies.

The Net-Zero Banking Alliance is convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Finance Initiative.
43 banks from 23 countries formed the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), which joined GFANZ. The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) was chaired by the UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance.

This year, super moons would appear on two occasions – on April 26th and on May 26th. The first super moon on April 26th is called by the name “Pink Moon”.
It is so called because, it corresponds with the springtime blooms of a certain wildflower native to eastern North America, which is commonly known as moss pink.

After an all-party meet chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, the Tamil Nadu state government decided to reopen the Sterlite copper smelter plant at Thoothukudi.
The plant was permitted to operate for a period of four months to produce medical oxygen. The company will not be allowed to open or operate other plants used for copper production. This plant was shut down by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2018 after protests from locals.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to conduct a customer satisfaction survey to find out the impact of the recent mergers of public sector banks.
The ‘Bank Customers’ Satisfaction Survey’ will cover a total of 20,000 respondents from 21 states. As many as 22 questions would be asked to assess if the merger was positive from the point of customer services.

A massive forest fire has been raging in the hills near Lunglei town, which is situated in the state of Mizoram. The fire is reported to have spread to towns and villages of in and around Lunglei and Lawngtlai districts of the state.
The state has deployed the firefighting team, who have taken assistance from the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and IAF personnel to put off the fire.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was first practised in the year 2003 by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), as a part of its ‘Global Strategy on Occupational Safety and Health’.
Every year, April 28 is observed as the ‘World Day for Safety and Health at Work’, to focus on the importance and prevention of accidents and diseases at workplaces. This year, ILO aims to raise awareness on the importance of creating and investing in resilient OSH systems and curbing Covid-19 in work places.

The Asian Development Bank has recently released a report titled Developing Asia’s Economic Outlook.
As per the report, India’s economy is expected to grow 11% in fiscal year (FY) 2021-22. This growth is backed by a strong vaccination drive which is undertaken in India. At the same time, the report warned that the surge in cases may lead to economic risks.

Veteran Gujarati poet Dadudan Gadhvi has recently passed away. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 for his contribution in literature and education.
He had also won several other awards including the Gujarat Gaurav Award as well as the Jhaverchand Meghani Award. His complete works are collected in two literary volumes named Terva and Lachhanayan.

Notes:
The Plain of Jars is a famous archaeological landscape located in northern Laos. It consists of thousands of stone jars scattered around the valleys and the foothills of the Xiangkhoang Plateau.
As per a recent research, the mysterious Plain of Jars were likely used as a burial site for much longer than previously known. The research suggests that the massive jars could be more than 3,000 years old.
