Prime Minister Appoints Two New NITI Aayog Members
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of academicians Joram Aniya and R. Balasubramaniam as full-time members of NITI Aayog. The decision follows the recent reconstitution of the apex policy body aimed at strengthening India’s governance framework with wider expertise and representation.
Reconstitution of Policy Think Tank
The appointments come after a significant restructuring of NITI Aayog on April 24. Ashok Kumar Lahiri was appointed as Vice-Chairperson, alongside new full-time members including Rajiv Gauba, K. V. Raju, Gobardhan Das, Abhay Karandikar and M. Srinivas. This move is aimed at revitalising the institution’s role in policy formulation and long-term development planning.
Joram Aniya’s Academic Profile
Joram Aniya’s induction is considered a landmark step for regional representation, particularly from Arunachal Pradesh. With more than 18 years of experience in teaching and research, she currently heads the Hindi Department at Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar. She is the first woman from the Nyishi community to earn a PhD and has contributed significantly to indigenous literature and cultural preservation. Her work focuses on documenting and promoting Nyishi traditions and knowledge systems.
R. Balasubramaniam’s Governance Expertise
R. Balasubramaniam brings extensive experience in public policy and institutional development. He serves as Member (HR) in the Capacity Building Commission under Mission Karmayogi. He is also an author and leadership expert, with his recent book analysing leadership aspects of Prime Minister Modi’s public life. His expertise lies in governance reforms and capacity building.
