Palestinian Embassy Seeks India’s Medical Aid for Gaza
The Palestinian Embassy in New Delhi issued an urgent appeal to India on 20 June 2026 for immediate medical assistance for the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The appeal referred to severe strain on Gaza’s health system, partial hospital functioning, and shortages of medicines, equipment, fuel, and blood stocks.
Medical Crisis in Gaza
The World Health Organization has stated that 19 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals were functioning partially as of 20 June 2026. The Embassy listed shortages of nearly 180 of 520 required medicines, along with dialysis supplies, surgical equipment, insulin, and fuel for hospital generators.
Aarogya Maitri and Humanitarian Assistance
Aarogya Maitri is an Indian humanitarian initiative announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the supply of essential medical assistance to countries facing humanitarian crises. The Palestinian Embassy asked India to use this channel for life-saving medical supplies.
Public Health Conditions and Patient Burden
The Embassy stated that more than 11,000 scheduled surgeries had been postponed since the beginning of 2026. It also stated that around 4,000 cancer patients faced immediate risk because of shortages of necessary medicines.
