Madhya Pradesh to Relaunch State Bus Service
Madhya Pradesh has planned to reintroduce a state-run public bus network named Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva after a gap of 21 years. The service is scheduled for phased rollout from July-August 2026, with Indore selected as the model city for the first phase.
State Road Transport in Madhya Pradesh
The earlier state-owned Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation was shut down in 2005 after financial losses. The new bus service is designed for intercity, intracity, and interstate routes across the state.
Operational Plan and Fleet Size
The state plans to deploy more than 5,200 buses under the new system. A total of 1,688 buses are planned for Indore in the first phase, and the service will operate through seven transport regions: Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Sagar, Gwalior, and Rewa.
Public-Private Partnership Model
The new transport system will function under a public-private partnership model. Officials have stated that private bus operators running services under valid permits will continue their operations.
Electric Buses Under PM e-Bus Service
The first phase includes 150 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Service. These buses are expected to begin operations in Indore from July 2026.
