Go East Initiative for Industrial Growth in Odisha
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the “Go East” initiative on 27 June 2026 at the CII Eastern Region Council meeting in Bhubaneswar. “Go East” stands for Government of Odisha – Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Task Force, and it is linked with industrial promotion in Odisha and eastern India.
Go East Initiative
The initiative includes a high-level Special Task Force for investment facilitation and a dedicated “Go East Cell” in the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha, known as IPICOL. A digital module named “Go Swift” is planned for real-time monitoring of investment processes and approvals.
Industrial Policy Resolution-2022
The state government has proposed amendments to the Industrial Policy Resolution-2022, also called IPR-2022. The amendments place 15 economically backward or underdeveloped districts in the Thrust Sector category for non-mineral-based industries. Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Boudh and Gajapati are among the districts named for priority treatment under the revised framework. The Thrust Sector category in industrial policy is used for sectors that receive priority in incentives, approvals or facilitation.
Investment and Employment Data
Since June 2024, the Odisha government has approved 477 industrial projects with an investment value of nearly ₹9.5 lakh crore. These projects are projected to create employment for about six lakh people. Of these, 152 projects involving investments of more than ₹3.11 lakh crore have already been grounded and are in the inauguration phase. Industrial project grounding refers to the stage when physical work begins after approval.
