Strings 2015 conference will be held from 22 – 26 June 2015 at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, IISc Campus and ICTS Campus, Bengaluru. The conference, being held in India after 14 years, brings some of the big stars of the physics world to discuss some of the deepest questions of science.

Maharashtra became the first state in the country to have state butterfly. Maharashtra government declared Blue Mormon as the state butterfly. ‘Blue Mormon’ (Papilio polymnestor) is the second largest by size, only behind the southern birdwing. It has velvet, black wings with bright blue spots. The lower end of the wings are black while the body has some red spots on one side. Interestingly, it is only found in Sri Lanka, western ghats of Maharashtra, South India and coastal belts of the country.

Gunther Schuller was an American composer, conductor, horn player, author, historian and jazz musician. As a composer, Mr. Schuller wrote more than 200 compositions, including solo and orchestral works, chamber music, opera and jazz. His orchestral work, “Of Reminiscences and Reflections,” dedicated to his wife Marjorie Black, won the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for Music.

They were awarded in 1929.
