China and US bring in aid for India
The United States has announced 2.9 million USD aid for India to fight against COVID-19. Apart from the US, China is to donate more than 1,70,000 Personal Protective Equipment to India.
Currently, there are 3,87,000 PPE kits in the country. The domestic supply of the PPE kits will increase after the kits from China arrive in India. India is also negotiating with Singapore to import around 8 million PPE kits.
A PPE kit consists of gloves, face shields, goggles, gowns, masks, head covers, shoe covers. The kit is used to protect a person from droplet routes.
The United States has allocated funds of 2.9 million USD under its American Global Response Package. Through this package the US has helped 64 countries contributing around 174 million USD. Along with India, the fund is to be provided to several other ASEAN countries. It also includes 2.4 million USD for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
