CAG appointed as External Auditor of IAEA & WIPO

  • The CAG of India appointed as EXTERNAL AUDITOR of two major UN organizations:-
  1. The Vienna based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
  2. The Geneva based World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)
  • This for the first time that a supreme audit institution from outside Europe has been appointed to these prestigious positions in these two organizations
  • The appointment was made amidst tough competition from other developed nations viz the U.K., Spain and Norway
  • Tenure of these audits may well extend up to 6 years
  • CAG is on the panel of external auditors of the UN and its agencies and also on the Governing Board of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions. The audit body is also poised to take over as its Chairman for three years from March 2012
  • The professional capabilities of the CAG’s auditing talent pool were acknowledged by the appointments for organizations such as IAEA and WIPO
  • The recognition of the capabilities of the CAG of India in the past has been demonstrated in his appointment on the Board of Auditors of the UN and as external auditor to various other chief UN agencies like FAO, WHO, IMO and Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
