CCI Hosts BRICS Competition Authorities Meeting

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) hosted the Meeting of Heads of BRICS Competition Authorities on 8 August 2026 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, under India’s 2026 BRICS Chairship. The meeting brought together heads and senior representatives of BRICS member competition regulators and adopted a Joint Statement on fair competition in renewable energy markets.

BRICS Competition Authorities

BRICS is a grouping of major emerging economies, and its competition authorities cooperate on antitrust issues, market regulation, and policy dialogue. The BRICS competition framework includes exchanges on enforcement practices, merger control, and competition advocacy across member jurisdictions.

Renewable Energy and Competition Policy

The Joint Statement was titled “Strengthening Cooperation to Promote Fair Competition, including in Renewable Energy Markets”. A collaborative study titled “Emerging Competition Landscape in the Renewable Energy Sector in BRICS” was presented during the meeting to examine market dynamics and identify areas for future policy cooperation.

Digital Markets and Emerging Technologies

The BRICS antitrust bodies also discussed knowledge-sharing and dialogue on cross-border challenges in digital markets and emerging technologies. Such issues commonly involve platform competition, data-driven business models, and regulatory coordination across jurisdictions.
