Anant Nag to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Anant Nag, a veteran Indian actor with a film career spanning more than five decades, will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024. The Government of India announced the honour on 16 September 2026, and the award will be presented at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, on 22 September 2026.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest honour in cinema. It is named after Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, who is known as the father of Indian cinema. The award is given for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

Anant Nag’s Film Career

Anant Nag has acted in more than 300 films in Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. He is also known for his role in the television series Malgudi Days, which was based on the works of R. K. Narayan.

National Film Awards and Kannada Cinema

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is presented during the National Film Awards ceremony, which is organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Anant Nag will become the second Kannada actor to receive the award after Dr. Rajkumar, who was honoured in 1995.
