Rajnath Singh Calls for Integrated Civil-Military Aerospace Ecosystem

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called for an integrated civil-military aerospace ecosystem in Bengaluru on 18 September 2026. He linked the proposal with indigenous capability in aircraft design, avionics, propulsion, composite materials, flight control systems, manufacturing, and certification.

Integrated Aerospace Ecosystem

An integrated aerospace ecosystem is a framework in which civil aviation and military aviation share industrial, technological, and manufacturing capabilities. In India, such an ecosystem involves public sector undertakings, private firms, research institutions, and certification agencies.

Indigenous Aerospace Capabilities

Aircraft design is the process of planning the structure, aerodynamics, and systems of an aircraft. Avionics refers to electronic systems used in aircraft, including navigation, communication, and flight management. Propulsion covers engines and power systems, while composite materials are used in airframes and structural components for strength and weight reduction.

Flight control systems manage the movement and stability of aircraft through mechanical, hydraulic, or digital controls. Certification is the formal approval of an aircraft or component for operational use under prescribed safety standards.

Handover of Aircraft and Helicopters

The event took place at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, where Light Combat Aircraft Tejas twin-seater trainers and Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 basic trainer aircraft were handed over to the Indian Air Force. Dhruv Next Generation helicopters were also handed over to Pawan Hans Limited.

Light Combat Aircraft Tejas is an indigenously developed fighter aircraft programme. HTT-40 is a basic trainer aircraft used for pilot training. Dhruv is a multi-role helicopter platform developed in India.

He also referred to artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, electronic warfare, cyber technologies, and next-generation propulsion as areas linked to future warfare and aerospace development.
