waterways transportation takes place in
West Bengal. They are Damodar,
Rupnarayan, Subarnarekha, Ajay, Icchamati, Bakreswar, Mayurakshi, Jalangi,
Darakeswar, Ganga-Bhagirathi Stretch,
DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation) canal and the Sundarban waterways. Inland
waterways provide important means for transportation of goods and people.

Communist Party of India (Marxist).
He served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000. He was India’s longest serving Chief Minister.

Satyendra Nath Bose is best
known for his work on quantum
mechanics in the early 1920s, providing the foundation for
Bose-Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose-Einstein
condensate. B–E statistics was introduced for photons in 1924 by Bose and generalized to atoms by Einstein in 1924–25.

Bangali Dialect is the most widely spoken dialect of Bengali language. It is the dialect of Bengali spoken in Khulna Division, Barisal Division, Dhaka Division, Mymensingh Division, Comilla Division of
undivided Bengal.

Bengali saw an increase in Sanskrit influence during middle Bengali era (Chaitanya
era) and also during Bengal renaissance. Middle Bengali literature can be divided into two literary divisions which are: 1. Pre-Chaitanya Vaishnava literature, and 2. Post-Chaitanya Vaishnava literature.

The word ‘Gaudiya’ literally comes from the word ‘Gaur’ which means ‘Old Bengal’. The dance form is originated from the Natyashastra, the earliest extent monumental
document and treatise on Indian dance. The Gaudiya Nritya is based on literature,
sculpture and paintings.

Jhumur dance is performed by girls, while the boys play the Dhol and Madol. This dance form is accompanied by fast-paced and cheerful Jhumur
songs.

The Lathi dance is half dance and half sport. Drums and brass cymbals are used to maintain the
rhythm and tempo. With sticks and
swords in their hands, the youths demonstrate their bravery by way of a mock battle.
They skilfully whirl their sticks, moving them to the front or to the sides, then under their legs or over their heads in time to the music. The fierce clashes of the sticks
create a battle scene. The drummer plays an important role in this dance, guiding the moves, tempo and rhythm of the dancers. This dance is divided into several sections like an introduction, different warlike stances, the fight, resolution and rest.

In his second film ‘Dakhal’ in Bengali, Gautam Ghosh
portrayed the life of a nomadic tribe and depicted the heroic attempts of a woman to strike new roots. He directed a short
documentary New Earth in 1973. Some other films directed by him are Antarjali
Yatra, Padma Nadir Majhi, Paar, Patang,
Gudia, Fakir, Dekha and Sankhachil. He
won 16 national awards and many
international awards like the UNESCO Award, the Cannes Film Festival Award,
etc.
