Battle of Pratapgad was fought in 1659. It was fought between the forces of Marathas who were under the leadership of King Shivaji Bhonsale I and the forces of Adilshahi who were under the leadership of Afzal khan.  Marathas defeated the forces of Adilshahi. Afzal khan was killed in the battle.
Afzal khan was a general who served the Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur Sultanate in India. He helped in the southern exapansion of Bijapur Sultanate  by defeating the Nayaka chiefs who were ruling over the former Vijayanagara territory.
Shivaji Bhonsale I was an Indian ruler and a member of the Bhonsale Maratha clan. He got the title Chhatrapati and later called as “Chhatrapati Shivaji”.

The Mysore Plateau is also known as the South Karnataka Plateau. It is a plateau that is one of the four geographically unique regions of Karnataka. It is bounded on the west and the south by the Western Ghats. Most of the river Kaveri flows through the Mysore Plateau in Karnataka.

Panchagangavalli River is a river flowing through Kundapur and Gangolli in the stae of Karnataka. The five rivers namely are Varahi River, Souparnika River, Kedaka River, Kubja River and Chakra River. They join and merge into Arabian Sea. In Kannada and Sanskrit Pancha means five and Ganga means River.

To provide irrigation to the drought-prone areas of Bijapur, Bagalkot, Gulbarga, Yadgir and Raichur districts in Karnataka, the Upper Krishna Project (UKP) which is an irrigation project across the Krishna River has been started. The Government of Karnataka has designed the project to irrigate 1,536,000 acres of land (6,220 km²).

The dwarf puffer fish (Carinotetraodon travancoricus) which is also known as the Pea puffer fish, Malabar puffer fish or the pygmy puffer fish, is a small, freshwater puffer fish which is found in Southern Karnataka and Kerala. This fish species is threatened due to over-fishing for the aquarium trade, and also due to its habitat loss.

Tannirbhavi beach is located in Mangalore, Karnataka and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Karnataka. Along with the beach, Tannirbavi Tree Park, Sultan Battery & the proposed Marine museum are the other tourist attractions. It comes second in popularity in tourist attraction next only to the Panambur beach.

Indian Scientist Dr Sakya Singha Sen and team wins ‘Merck Young Scientist Awards 2019’ in Karnataka. The team has won the award for their specialization in main group of chemistry and synthesis of compounds with main group elements and their catalytic application.

Rangappa Nayak had represented Raichur Parliamentary Constituency in 1996.  He forayed into politics as Mandal Pradhan of Rukmapur of Shorapur taluk. He had served as chairman of health standing committee of Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat in 1993.

“Turant Customs” is a faceless assessment programme by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) aimed to facilitate ease of doing business. It is launched in Bengaluru and Chennai.
Under it, importers will now get their goods cleared from Customs after a faceless assessment is done remotely by the Customs officers located outside the port of import.
