The sloth bear rescue centre at Bannerghatta National Park (BNP), initiated in 2000 in Karnataka, acknowledged as the second-largest sloth bear rescue centre globally, has marked its 18th year of operation.
The sloth bear rehabilitation centre is the first such functioning centre for rescued sloth bears from keepers of dancing bears in India.

Bengaluru Safe City Command Centre was inaugurated recently by the Karnataka Chief minister Siddaramaiah.
The command center is built with the cost of ₹660 crores under Nirbhaya Yojana. While the central government contributed 60 per cent of the project cost, the state government spent another 40 per cent on it.

The West Bengal government and Uber signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a bus service called “Uber Shuttle” in Kolkata. The MoU was signed at the Bengal Global Business Summit 2023. Uber is expected to start the service by March 2024.
The service will offer commuters technology-optimized mobility options. As part of the MoU, Uber has pledged to invest $10 million in the state by 2025.

The Union Government has exempted the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the national nodal agency to deal with cyber security threats like hacking and phishing, from the purview of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
The Centre has used its powers given under sub-section (2) of Section 24 of the RTI Act to exempt CERT-In from the purview of the transparency law. Using those powers, the Centre has included CERT-In at serial number 27 in the Second Schedule of the RTI Act.

Falling recovery rates from 43% to 32% between March 2019 and September 2023, and an increase in the average resolution time from 324 to 653 days versus the stipulated 330 days have emerged as impediments to the success of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), according to a report by CRISIL Rating.
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) was launched in 2016.

North Korea has said it successfully launched a military spy satellite on its third attempt in six months.
The reconnaissance satellite Malligyong-1 was accurately put on its orbit, after it was launched from the Sohae Satellite Launching Station.

Kambala is a traditional folk sport predominantly observed in the coastal districts of Karnataka, particularly in areas where Tulu speakers constitute the majority.
Kambala races were hosted recently by Bengaluru and lakhs of people visited the venue to watch the event. Kambala has in the past been banned by the Supreme Court, but the Karnataka government amended legislation to allow the races to go on.

The government has decided to rename the Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centres as ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ and the Union Health Ministry has sent a letter to the states and Union territories to implement the rebranding exercise by end of this year.
National Health Mission (NHM) logo is to be retained in the rebranded centres. The rebranded AB-HWCs will also have a new tagline — ‘Arogyam Parmam Dhanam’.

The central government has issued a notification approving the proposal to merge the Noradehi Sanctuary with the Durgavati Sanctuary of the Damoh district, creating a vast tiger reserve spanning 2,300 square kilometres.
Damoh district in Madhya Pradesh is set to become home to the country’s largest tiger reserve.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched Classic Imperial, said to be the first and biggest-of-its-kind tourist vessel built in Kerala.
The 50-metre-long air-conditioned vessel that adheres to safety norms specified by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and can carry up to 150 passengers will operate in the backwaters off Marine Drive.
