Bologna is a city in and the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy. A group of researchers examined a 500-year-old herbarium, a systematic collection of pressed flowers, leaves, and various plant components.
It provided them with a chance to explore Italy’s history, particularly in the northern region of Bologna. Their discoveries included evidence of human interference, alterations in habitats, shifts in climate, and the introduction of foreign species over a span of five centuries. The collection comprises 5,000 specimens, carefully pressed and preserved by Italian naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi between 1551 and 1586.

‘Towards Eliminating Plastic Pollution by 2040: A Policy Scenario Analysis’ was released recently by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) ahead of the third session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (INC3).
In 2022, a recent interim report reveals that approximately 21 million metric tonnes (MT) of plastic entered the global environment.

DPIIT releases index number of wholesale price in India on monthly basis on 14th of every month. The annual rate of inflation based on all India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) number is (-) 0.52% (Provisional) for the month of October, 2023 (over October, 2022) against (-) 0.26% recorded in September, 2023.
The negative rate of inflation in October, 2023 is primarily due to fall in prices of chemicals and chemical products, electricity, textiles, basic metals, food products, etc. as compared to the corresponding month of previous year.

November 15 marks the Jharkhand Foundation Day. It was formed as the 28th state on November 15, 2000.
Every year November 15th is celebrated as the Jharkhand Foundation Day across the state. Before this, the state was part of southern half of Bihar.

Russia has signed an agreement with India to supply its Igla hand-held anti-aircraft missile to the country.
According to the pact, Russia will also allow domestic production of the Igla anti-aircraft missile system in India. From 2016-2021, Russia accounted for over 50% of India’s arms imports.

Socialist leader Pedro Sánchez was re-elected as Spain’s prime minister in a parliamentary vote, winning another term in office.
The vote allowed Sánchez to form a new minority coalition government with the left-wing Sumar (Joining Forces) party.

Following the signing of the supply chain resilience pact, India, the US, and 12 other members of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) have jointly announced the completion of negotiations on fair and clean economy agreements.
The member nations will now proceed with the required steps, including additional domestic consultations and legal reviews, to prepare the final texts of these agreements, as stated in a joint announcement by the IPEF partner nations.

Madras High Court has created a record in disposal of cases by registering its highest-ever Case Clearance Rate (CCR) of 114% in 2022 as against 109% in 2021.
The High Court had registered a CCR of 106.21% in 2018, 112.77% in 2019 and 103.23% in 2020 too despite the COVID-19 outbreak when court hearings were held through virtual mode. The rate increased to 109% in 2021 and reached the all-time high of 114% in 2022.

India recently hosted the second ‘Voice of the Global South Summit’ (VOGSS) in the virtual format. The first summit was held on 12–13 January 2023.
The term ‘global South’ was first used by Carl Oglesky, a leftist American author and political activist in 1969, which gathered currency in the later decades.
