Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, which had already faced significant delays, encountered another setback.
Located on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, this project experienced a hillside collapse on the left side of the dam, leading to the deposition of debris into its reservoir. This event resulted in the obstruction of the only operational diversion tunnel and halted the flow of water downstream of the dam into the Subansiri River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra.

Notes:
The Bihar Legislature collectively approved a legislation that increases the reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in educational entities and public employment from 50% to 65%.
Taking into account the current 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), the total reservation will now stand at 75%.

International Convention on Millets was recently organized in Bhubaneswar. The purpose of the convention is to devise a worldwide strategy for millets, with Odisha leading the initiative.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the two-day international convention with the theme “Millets – Ancient Grains for Modern Challenges” by planting a sapling.

Lok Sabha Ethics Committee adopted a report recommending the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from the Lower House over a “cash-for-query” allegation.
The ethics committee report will be tabled in the Lok Sabha on the first day of the Winter Session.

The Corporate Affairs Ministry (MCA) extended the term of the 16-member Committee on Digital Competition Law (CDCL) up to December 31, 2023.
The extended term of this panel, which was tasked to submit a draft Bill of proposed digital competition law, had expired on October 31. CDCL will have to submit its report to the government including a draft Digital Competition Act (DCA).

After 40 workers were trapped in the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand, relief and rescue operations for being made to safely evacuate the workers from the tunnel.
The under-construction tunnel collapsed from Silkyara to Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi district of the state. The tunnel is part of the Rs 12000 crore Char Dham all-weather road project.

The World Energy Employment 2023 report was released by the International Energy Agency. As per the report, with 35 million jobs worldwide, clean energy has exceeded the number of jobs available in the traditional fossil fuel sector (32 million) for the first time in 2021.
The report shows that clean energy jobs are steadily maintaining the lead and are also growing at more than 3.6 times the rate of fossil fuel jobs.

A team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has developed a robotic AI chemist capable of automatically synthesising and optimising OER catalysts from Martian meteorites.
This advancement holds significant potential for upcoming Mars missions, particularly in terms of resource utilization and diminishing the necessity of importing oxygen from Earth.
