World-renowned author Salman Rushdie has been awarded the first-ever ‘Lifetime Disturbing the Peace Award’ by the Vaclav Havel Center.
This was Rushdie’s first public appearance since he was stabbed during a literary festival in New York in August 2022. Rushdie was also the recipient of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.

Indian authorities have opted to maintain the use of the American Cummins engine for the entire Zorawar light tank project.
Originally, the project was intended to incorporate a German engine, but it encountered delays due to a lack of German export control clearances known as BAFA clearance. As a result, the decision was made to proceed with the American engine. Zorawar light tank is a cooperative initiative between DRDO and the commercial company Larsen and Toubro.

Union Cabinet had approved PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT hardware in May 2023. This scheme covers laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, Servers and Ultra Small Form Factor devices
Applications of 27 IT hardware manufacturers have been approved recently. IT hardware of well-known brands such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc will be manufactured in India.

Food safety regulator FSSAI has launched the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal in four regional languages, apart from Hindi and English, in order to enhance user experience and accessibility.
The portal is now available in Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi, apart from Hindi and English. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) also plans to launch the portal in Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Assamese, Bengali and Odia soon.

The Global Fisheries Conference India 2023, a two-day major event, will be organized in Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad.
With the theme ‘Celebrating Fisheries and Aquaculture Wealth,’ the conference aims to unite key stakeholders on a single platform to engage in productive discussions, share market insights, and facilitate networking opportunities.

Verstappen joined Sebastian Vettel in third place on the all-time winners’ list. The triumph was the 53rd of the triple world champion’s career, and sixth in a row.

The United Service Institution of India (USI), the nation’s oldest think-tank founded in 1870 to engage in research and discussions on national security and military matters, hosted its Annual UN Forum 2023 in New Delhi.
This forum, focusing on ‘International Humanitarian Law and Peacekeeping,’ is a collaborative effort with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Centre for UN Peacekeeping Operations.

Emmett Shear has assumed the role of interim CEO at OpenAI, the organization responsible for the development of the artificial intelligence-powered chatbot ChatGPT.
This appointment comes just two days after the company’s board terminated the position of OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman.

The Union Health Ministry has unveiled the draft National Pharmacy Commission Bill, 2023, with the intention of revoking the Pharmacy Act of 1948 and substituting the Pharmacy Council of India with a national commission.
The proposed bill is designed to establish a pharmacy education system that enhances access to quality and affordable pharmaceutical education.

United Nations panel on road traffic meeting is set to take place in New Delhi in December 2023.
This 3-day conference will be jointly organized by the Institute of Road Traffic Education and the Global Road Safety Forum of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and its Asia-Pacific counterpart, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
