Olympic and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was shortlisted for men’s ‘World Athlete of the Year’ award.
The 25-year-old Indian was one of the five athletes shortlisted for the prestigious honour. The other male athletes in the final list are USA’s Ryan Crouser (shot put), Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis (Pole vault), Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum (marathon) and USA’s Noah Lyles (100m/200m).

The 2023-24 Budget has pegged direct tax collection at Rs 18.23 trillion, 9.75 per cent higher than Rs 16.61 trillion in the last fiscal.
The government will exceed the Rs 18.23 trillion direct tax collection target set for the current fiscal, as per Central Board of Direct Taxes. As per government data, the net direct tax collection between April 1 and November 9 this fiscal has grown 22 per cent to Rs 10.60 trillion.

According to the 19th annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere reached unprecedented levels in 2022, and there is no indication of this upward trend coming to a halt.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a branch of the United Nations, has reported that in the previous year, levels of the three primary greenhouse gases responsible for climate warming namely carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, all reached record-breaking levels.

Nisar, the collaborative earth-observing radar satellite between NASA and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has completed a rigorous 21-day test designed to assess its performance under extreme temperatures and the vacuum of outer space, as confirmed by NASA.
This thermal vacuum test was conducted at ISRO’s Satellite Integration and Test Establishment in Bengaluru.

The Delhi government has formed a six-member Special Task Force (STF) to ensure the rigorous implementation of air pollution control measures as outlined in the Centre’s Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the capital.
Led by Delhi’s special secretary (environment), the STF comprises senior officials from various departments, including transport, traffic, revenue, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and Public Works Department (PWD).

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been sworn in as the eighth President of the Republic of Maldives in a ceremony held at Male.
Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju represented India at the swearing-in ceremony. Dr. Muizzu had defeated outgoing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the runoff elections held in September.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bags prestigious SKOCH National Award- 2023 for its innovative Rs 1 Crore accident relief Sarige Suraksha Insurance Scheme for its staff which is the first in the history of transport organizations in the country.
SKOCH Group India is an independent think tank industry based in Delhi established in 1997, which has instituted SKOCH awards in 2003 for best governance, finance, technology and inclusive growth. SKOCH group selects the projects for awards based on benchmark performance and outcome.

Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil and gas company, Saudi Aramco, has discovered two new natural gas fields in the Empty Quarter region of the Eastern Province: Al-Hiran, Al-Mahakik.
The discovery of the Al-Hiran gas field was confirmed after gas flowed at a rate of 30 million standard cubic feet per day, and 1,600 barrels of condensate daily.

Notes:
Australia defeated India in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and clinched the ODI World Cup for the sixth time.
India had 10 successive victories in the tournament and Virat Kohli won the Player of the Tournament Award.
