The “Rwanda plan,” initiated in April 2022 by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, aimed to discourage asylum seekers from undertaking the perilous 20-mile (32 km) journey across the Channel from Europe to England’s southern shores in small boats or inflatable dinghies.
However, the UK Supreme Court ruled that the government’s scheme to send asylum seekers to Rwanda was illegal, dealing a significant setback to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s efforts to deter arrivals via small boats.

Uttar Pradesh launched a seven-month ecotourism session for tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries for 2023-24.
UP Forest Corporation, responsible for governing ecotourism in the state, allowed a considerable reduction in charges for jungle safaris and accommodations at departmental facilities compared to previous years, to attract a larger crowd.

Quinton de Kock becomes the only wicket-keeper to score more than 500 runs and effect 20 dismissals in a single edition of a men’s World Cup.
He is also one of the six players to have aggregated 5,000-plus runs as a designated wicket-keeper in ODIs till date.

Tamil writer Perumal Murugan has won the coveted JCB Prize for Literature for his novel, Fire Bird, an English translation of his Tamil novel Aalandapatchi.
The JCB Literary Prize award carries Rs 25 lakh to the author and an additional Rs 10 lakh to the translator. The novel was translated into English by Janani Kannan.

The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, 2022 was jointly awarded to the Indian Medical Association and the Trained Nurses Association of India.
Former Vice-President Hamid Ansari presented the awards. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi heads the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

‘Climate finance provided and mobilised by developed countries for the period 2013-21’ report was published by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
It showed that economically developed countries fell short of their promise to jointly mobilise USD 100 billion a year, towards the climate mitigation and adaptation needs of developing countries, in 2021.

The Bihar government issued the gazette notification for the two quota bills after governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar signed the Bihar Reservation of vacancies in posts and services (For SC, ST, EBC and OBC) Amendment Bill and the Bihar (In Admission in Educational, Institutions) Reservation Amendment Bill, 2023 paving the way for increase in quota from the existing 50% to 65%.
With this, total reservation in the state will reach 75% after adding 10% to the economic and weaker sections (EWS).

Javier Milei recently won Argentina’s presidential election. Controversial economist Javier Milei, a far-right libertarian outsider in Argentina’s politics, is set to be the country’s next president.
The political landscape of Argentina has been historically influenced by socialism in Latin America. Milei has not only promised to tighten the fiscal expenditures but also promised to scrap the local currency and shutting down the central bank.
