The Defence Minister recently addressed the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Strategic Infrastructure Conclave in New Delhi. He highlighted the critical role of strategic infrastructure in modern warfare and national security.The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is India’s premier border infrastructure agency. It was established on 7 May 1960 to develop strategic infrastructure and secure India’s border areas. Since 2015–16, BRO has functioned fully under the Ministry of Defence. It operates across 19 States, 3 Union Territories (including Andaman & Nicobar Islands), and friendly neighbouring countries such as Bhutan, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.

Notes:
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is participating in Exercise Pitch Black 2026 in Australia. The exercise will be held from 20 July to 7 August 2026 at Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) bases in Darwin, Tindal, and Amberley. Exercise Pitch Black is the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) premier multinational air combat exercise. The exercise aims to enhance interoperability, combat flying skills, operational coordination, and defence cooperation. India will participate in complex air combat scenarios alongside air forces from the Indo-Pacific and Europe.

The Election Commission of India organized the first All India Media Conference in New Delhi on July 17, 2026. The one-day event brought together more than 380 media professionals and officials from across the country under the theme, “Connecting Stakeholders, Strengthening Democracy: Role of Media in Elections”. India’s electoral rolls cover nearly 95 crore electors and are continuously updated. More than 12 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 15 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) help ensure transparency in the electoral process. The conference highlighted the ECINET platform, the role of technology, electoral roll preparation, polling, counting, and media-related election laws.

The 4th National Conference on Responsible Business Conduct (NCRBC) 2026 concluded in New Delhi. It was organised by the School of Business Environment (SBE), Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The conference focused on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices and Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) for Viksit Bharat.

Notes:
The Prime Minister recently virtually inaugurated 75 redeveloped railway stations across 20 states under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) was launched in 2022 by the Ministry of Railways. The scheme aims at the long-term development and modernisation of railway stations across the Indian Railways network. It is based on station-specific master plans for phased implementation according to local needs. It also promotes the ‘One Station One Product’ (OSOP) initiative to support local products and improve station aesthetics.

Notes:
India achieved its best-ever performance at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (10–19 July 2026). All four Indian participants won Gold medals, marking India’s first-ever clean sweep of gold medals at the IChO. The gold medalists were Debadatta Priyadarshi (Odisha), Harshit Singla (Punjab), Kabeer Chillar (Delhi), and Sandeep Kuchi (Telangana). India finished joint first in the medal tally alongside China, Vietnam, and the Individual Participants Group B (Russia).

Kolkata Police launched a month-long awareness campaign through the Durga Suraksha Squad to spread awareness about crimes against women and cyber fraud. The campaign will cover 120 locations under 60 police stations across Kolkata. The Durga Suraksha Squad, originally formed for scooter-based women’s safety patrols, has been given additional responsibilities for public awareness. The initiative supports the West Bengal Government’s “Zero Tolerance” policy against crimes against women and complements cyber help desks established at police stations.

Spain defeated Argentina 1–0 after extra time to win the FIFA World Cup 2026. Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in the 106th minute. Spain won its second FIFA Men’s World Cup title and its first since 2010. Spain also became the first country to simultaneously hold both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup titles. Kylian Mbappé (France) won the Golden Boot, Rodri (Spain) received the Golden Ball, Unai Simón (Spain) won the Golden Glove, and Pau Cubarsí (Spain) was named Best Young Player.

India hosted the BRICS Meeting on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) in Chandigarh under its BRICS 2026 Chairship. The meeting was organised jointly by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Ayush. It was held under the BRICS 2026 theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation & Sustainability.” Representatives from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Russia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates participated.

Recently, the Ministry of Women and Child Development highlighted the Mission Vatsalya Portal in the Rajya Sabha. Mission Vatsalya is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. It has been developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD). It supports Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) and Children in Conflict with Law (CCL). The portal integrates TrackChild, Khoya-Paya, and GHAR (Go Home and Re-Unite). It is linked with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
