The 29th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2026 was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It was jointly organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), and the Government of Rajasthan. The theme of the conference was “Viksit Bharat 2047: AI-enabled, Data-driven & Secure Digital Governance.” The conference focused on AI-enabled, secure, and data-driven digital governance to support the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Notes:
National Postal Worker Day is observed every year on 1 July. The day honours the dedication and hard work of postal workers and mail carriers. It recognizes their role in ensuring the reliable delivery of letters and parcels. The observance was first established in the United States in 1997. It is now widely recognized as a day to appreciate postal workers for connecting communities through postal services.

Notes:
The Malaprabha River in Karnataka has recently dried up, causing hardship for people living along its banks. It is an important tributary of the Krishna River. The river originates at Kanakumbi village in the Western Ghats (Sahyadri Hills) of Belagavi (Belgaum) district, Karnataka. It flows eastward and joins the Krishna River at Kudala Sangama in Bagalkot district. Its major tributaries are Bennihalla, Hirehalla, and Tuprihalla. The Renukasagar Dam (Navilatirtha Dam) is built across the Malaprabha River.

Notes:
SHE-LEAPS (Self-Help Entrepreneur–Livelihoods and Enterprise Application for Prosperity and Sustainability) is a digital platform launched to promote women-led rural entrepreneurship. It was launched during the Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan in New Delhi. It has been developed by the Digital India Corporation and is implemented under the LokOS platform. The platform supports Self-Help Group (SHG) women by promoting enterprise development, livelihood generation, and financial inclusion. It covers both farm and non-farm enterprises and provides real-time enterprise monitoring and performance tracking.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the statewide ‘Digi Rover (GNSS) Special Land Measurement Campaign’. The campaign will run from 1 July to 15 August across all districts of Uttar Pradesh. It aims to resolve all pending land demarcation and measurement cases in tehsils using GNSS-based Digi Rover technology. The initiative was launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Saharanpur. The CM emphasized a transparent, time-bound, and technology-driven system for land-related services.

Notes:
The Indian gaur (bison) translocation programme to Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary has been put on hold due to high anthropogenic pressure, especially cattle presence. Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It represents the northeastern limit of the Eastern Ghats. The sanctuary was declared mainly to conserve wild elephants and their habitats. The Kumarkhunti Reservoir is the only permanent water source supporting wildlife during summer.

Hokato Hotozhe Sema has become World No. 1 in the men’s Shot Put F57 category. He is a Subedar in the 9 Assam Rifles and hails from Nagaland. He recently became the first Paralympian to receive the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
He is also a recipient of the Arjuna Award. He won the bronze medal in the men’s Shot Put F57 event at the 2024 Summer Paralympics. Fellow Indian athletes Rana Soman and Juyal Shubham are ranked second and third, respectively, in the latest World Para Athletics Rankings.

Notes:
Taal Volcano in the Philippines recently experienced a brief phreatomagmatic eruption, caused by interaction between magma and water. It is a stratovolcano located in Batangas Province, about 70 km south of Manila, Philippines. It is classified as a complex volcano by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The volcano consists of multiple stratovolcanoes, craters, and volcanic cones, rather than a single cone. It is one of the active volcanoes in the Philippines and lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire. It has a large caldera containing Taal Lake, within which lies Vulcan Point.

The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) conducted Pashujanya Yudh Abhyas (PYA), the third national-level mock drill under the National One Health Mission. The 5-day exercise was held from 29 June–3 July 2026 at Khari village, Vidisha district, Madhya Pradesh. It aimed to test India’s preparedness, coordination, and emergency response for zoonotic disease outbreaks using the One Health approach. The drill simulated an Influenza A (H1N1) outbreak in animals with the potential to spill over to humans and wildlife.

Notes:
The WHO recently confirmed a case of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) in Uganda. MVD is a severe, often fatal viral haemorrhagic disease caused by the Marburg virus. The virus belongs to the Filoviridae family, the same family as the Ebola virus. It is a zoonotic disease affecting humans and non-human primates. It was first identified in 1967 and is named after Marburg, Germany. The primary reservoir is the Egyptian fruit bat (Rousettus aegyptiacus). It spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated objects; it is not airborne.
