Notes:
The State Government of Nagaland has banned the sale of dog meat and commercial import and trading of dogs.
Several animal rights activists have been protesting the consumption of dog meat in the state. Earlier, the ‘animal bazaar’ of Dimapur, which sells dog meat was highlighted by several animal activists. Sale of cooked and uncooked dog meat is completely banned.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the ministry will launch Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Junior.
The scheme aims to train to train young athletes for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics. Under the existing TOPS scheme, senior athletes who have been identified as medal achievers for the Olympics are being trained. This was announced during the ‘Fit Hai To Hit Hai Fit India’ webinar.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal has recently inaugurated the Sardar Patel COVID care centre, which is claimed to be the largest in the world.
The 10,000-bed care centre has been built in a record time of 10 days. It has a COVID Care Centre (CCC), to treat asymptomatic positive patients and a Dedicated COVID Health Care (DCHC), to treat symptomatic cases.

The legal and legislative committee of Kuwait’s National Assembly has recently approved the draft expat quota bill.
If the bill is enacted into a law, over 8 lakh Indians could be forced out of Kuwait. As per the proposed bill, Indians should not exceed 15% of the population. Out of the 4.3 million population of Kuwait, there are 3 million expats. Moreover, Indians are the largest expatriate community with 1.45 million.

World Chess champion, Norwegian Grand Master Magnus Carlsen has won the Chessable Masters online tournament.
This tournament is the third event of the Magnus Carlsen Tour. Carlsen has won by scoring a straight-set victory in the final. He has faced Dutch chess player Anish Giri in the final. This is also the second time, Carlsen is winning the tournament, out of the three events of the tour.

The fourth edition of the Ministerial on Climate Action (MoCA) was recently held through video conferencing.
India’s Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar represented the country in the meeting. It was co-chaired by European Union, China and Canada to discuss on the implementation of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The state of Andhra Pradesh celebrates Farmer’s Day on the birth anniversary of its former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
The Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced that every year July 8 will be observed as ‘YSR Rythu Dinotsavam’ or Farmers Day. The former Andhra Pradesh CM and the father of Jagan Mohan Reddy, was known for his farmer-friendly schemes.

The United Nations is observing the Virtual Counter-Terrorism Week from July 6 to July 10, 2020.
The event has been convened under the theme of “Strategic and Practical Challenges of Countering Terrorism in a Global Pandemic Environment”. Throughout the week, several webinars and interactive discussions on the fields like bio and cyber terrorism, flagship UN counter-terrorism programmes, among others.

The Union Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh has inaugurated six major bridges in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, through video conferencing.
The bridges are located near the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. These strategically important bridges were completed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in a record time.

As per the official broadcasting service of Pakistan, the country’s mission to the United Nations has confirmed its bid to seek another term in the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Pakistan is to contest one of the four seats reserved for the Group of Asia Pacific countries for the 2021- 23 term. Pakistan was also a founding member of the UNHRC when it was founded in the year 2006.
