The trade deficit for India stood at USD 101.02 billion, crossing the USD 100 billion mark for the first time.
The trade between India and China touched an all-time high of USD 135.98 billion in 2022, according to data released by Chinese customs. The total India-China trade was 8.4 per cent higher than the USD 125 billion mark in 2021. While China’s exports to India climbed to USD 118.5 billion rising 21.7% y-o-y, Indian exports to China dipped to USD 17.48 billion.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the government will launch the Chief Minister’s Village Roads Improvement Scheme.
The scheme will be aimed at improving the quality of 10,000 km of panchayat union roads, with a budget of ₹4,000 crore over the next two years. The government has decided to extend the Chief Minister’s Breakfast scheme, launched for school students studying in classes I to, to all the school across Tamil Nadu in a phased manner.

Indian Opener Shubhman Gill recently hit his first double Century from 149 balls against New Zealand in the first of three ODIs.
India opener smashed a brilliant 208 with a strike rate of 139.59, with 19 boundaries and nine sixes. The 23-year-old also became the youngest batter to score a double century. Gill joined an elite list comprising Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Fakhar Zaman, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, and Martin Guptill.

India has been urging Sri Lanka to implement the 13th Amendment which was brought in after the Indo-Sri Lankan agreement of 1987.
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the government will implement 13th Amendment, which provides for devolution of power to minority Tamil community. He also informed that a Social Justice Commission would be established to address the grievances of all communities.

Nepal faces its deadliest plane crash in 30 years as the Yeti Airlines flight from Kathmandu to the tourist town of Pokhara crashed.
There were 72 passengers and crew aboard the Yeti Airlines and all passengers were dead after the crash. The Himalayan country has some of the most difficult terrain to navigate. The European Union has banned Nepalese airlines from its airspace over concerns about training and maintenance standards.

Akane Yamaguchi, the reigning world champion won the Malaysia Open Super 1000 women’s singles titles in Kuala Lumpur.
Viktor Axelsen won the Malaysia Open Super 1000 men’s singles title. This was Axelsen’s ninth Super Series Premier title and third Malaysia Open. In mixed doubles, the world no. 1 Chinese pair of Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong, claimed the season’s first Super Series Premier title.

Odisha government initiates process to divest 49 per cent stake in Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), a profit-making PSU.
The PSU operates 1,740 MW thermal power plant at Banharpalli in Jharsuguda district. The state has floated global tender inviting expression of interest (EoI) for disinvestment in the profit making company, two years after acquiring a 49 per cent stake of US-based AES Corporation in OPGC.

The Government proposed a set of changes to the existing Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) aiming to enhance the efficiency of the bankruptcy process and expanding the scope of the framework.
According to the release from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Fast-Track Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (FIRP) is proposed to allow financial creditors to drive the insolvency resolution process for a corporate debtor outside of the judicial process.

The Reserve Bank of India released the 9th volume of the annual publication titled ‘Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks’ Outlook 2021-22’.
The publication also provides bank-wise information of Scheduled Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks on financial ratios on Capital Adequacy, Profitability, and Employee Productivity.

The fourth edition of the ‘Millets & Organics – International Trade Fair 2023’ has started in Thripuravasini, Bengaluru.
2023 has been celebrated as the International Year of Millets. The fair is organised by the Department of Agriculture and the Government of Karnataka. The first Millets and Organics Fair was held in 2017, and the second and third editions in 2018 and 2019 in Bengaluru.
