The U.K. announced that it is scrapping its ‘Golden Visa’ Route, which is a visa program for millionaire investors, as part of efforts to cut down on fraud.
It is also so-called Tier 1 investor visa, as a part of its renewed crackdown on fraud and illicit finance. This was announced by the U.K. Home Secretary Priti Patel.

Eminent Kannada writer and poet Dr Chennaveera Kanavi passed away at the age of 94 after age-related complications.
The Karnataka government ordered police honours for his last rites. The litterateur won the Sahitya Akademi award for his book ‘Jeevadhwani’. He received various awards including Rajyotsava Award, Pampa Award, Nadoja title, Nrupathunga award, Sahitya Bangara Award.

“Frontiers 2022: Noise, Blazes and Mismatches” is a report which is published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in which the organisation has dealt with environmental issues and the effective and timely responses to achieve solutions.
The UNEP is an organisation within the UN, which sets the global environmental agenda and promotes implementation of the same. It was established in 1971 and is Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Union Ministry of Agriculture will conduct a campaign named ‘Meri Policy Mere Hath’, which aims to provide information to all farmers regarding their existing Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PM-FBY) policy, land records, the process of claim and grievance redressal. The policy related information would be furnished at the door steps of farmers.
The PM FBY was launched in the year 2016 and has entered into the 7th year of implementation in 2022.

The Government has approved the continuation of the Central Sector Umbrella Scheme of “Border Infrastructure and Management” (BIM) from 2021-22 to 2025-26, at a cost of Rs.13,020 crore.
The BIM scheme, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, will help in construction of border fence, border flood lights, technological solutions, Border roads and Border Outposts, to secure the Indo-Pakistan, Indo-Bangladesh, Indo-China, Indo-Nepal, Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Myanmar borders.

The Reserve bank of India authorises all Pre-paid Instruments (PPI) in India, under the powers conferred under Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (PSS Act).
The RBI recently cautioned public against car pooling app sRide, that the firm was operating a semi-closed pre-paid instrument without authorization from the central bank, under PSS Act, 2007.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has released two reports from the Institute for Competitiveness (Indian chapter), documenting India’s Covid-19 vaccine development and vaccine administration journey.
The report on India’s vaccine development focussed on Rs 100 crore support from PM CARES fund for indigenous vaccine and collaboration of Indian pharma companies with global candidates for conducting clinical trials. The report on administration focussed on adoption of mobile apps like Co-WIN and Aarogya Setu.

The European Commission published its draft Data Act, with new rules for data sharing and forms part of the European Union’s strategy to make it a leader in the ‘data-agile economy’.
The proposed legislation aims to make data sharing and data use easier and to set a standard at an EU-wide level. It calls for manufacturers to allow owners of connected devices to see what data they are gathering.

Notes:
India and Nepal agreed to form a joint task force on a proposal to construct a hydropower project from investments of the two neighbouring countries.2
The task force will have maximum three members from both the countries. It was agreed on the Meeting of Nepal-India Energy Secretary-Level Joint Steering Committee in Kathmandu. Both countries also agreed to increase the capacity of energy, imported and exported through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line.
