The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the ‘Garbage Free Cities’ vision has approved “legacy dump site remediation” proposal amounting Rs 235 crore to the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Government of India’s share in this would be Rs.77.66 crore.
This is considered to be the Ministry’s largest one-time approval of funds for legacy dumpsite remediation.

As per the recently released Hurun Report, the number of Dollar millionaires in India have increased by 11% at the end of 2021, with current numbers at 4.58 lakh. The report has also stated that the number of such Dollar millionaires who consider themselves happy in personal and professional life has come down to 66%.
Individuals who possess a personal wealth of over Rs 7 crore are called Dollar millionaires.

‘Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT)’ is an array of thirty fully steerable parabolic radio telescopes. It is located near Pune at Khodad in Maharashtra.
Astronomers from the National Centre of Radio Astrophysics (NCRA-TIFR) in Pune, and the University of California, Santa Cruz, have used GMRT to map the distribution of atomic hydrogen gas from the host galaxy of a fast radio burst (FRB).

The Delhi government established Specialised Schools of Excellence (SoSEs) to equip students with world-class facilities and instructors.
With the introduction of eleven new SOSEs this year, the total number of such schools rose to 31. The schools provide specialised education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), humanities, performing and visual arts, high-end 21st century skills and Armed Forces Preparatory School.

Biological E Limited’s Corbevax vaccine is India’s first indigenously developed Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) protein sub-unit vaccine against Covid-19.
It has received emergency use authorisation (EUA) from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for the 12 to 18 years age group. This is the third vaccine to receive EUA for 12-18 age group after Covaxin and Zydus Cadila’s DNA Covid-19 vaccine.

Professor Neena Gupta, a mathematician at the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, was conferred the Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians.
She received the award for the year 2021 for her significant work in affine algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. The prize is awarded annually to a researcher from a developing country, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in association with the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the International Mathematical Union (IMU).

Notes:
Paleontologists have found six specimens from three species of ornithuromorph (modern) birds at the China’s Gansu province.
It’s the second-richest Mesozoic fossil bird site in the world. Out of the six specimens, four belong to Gansus yumenensis, a species of aquatic bird that lived 120 million years ago. The two new species are : Meemannavis ductrix and Brevidentavis zhangi.

The US Chambers of Commerce has recently released the International Intellectual Property Index 2022, in which out of 55 countries, India has been ranked at 43. India’s overall IP score has improved from 38.4 per cent to 38.6 per cent.
The USA has topped the list with a score of 95.48% followed by UK and Germany in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

Thiomargarita Magnifica is the newly described bacterium living in Caribbean mangroves. It is claimed to be the largest ever bacterium.
Its threadlike single cell is visible to the naked eye, growing up to 2 centimeters, which is 5000 times bigger than many other microbes. T. magnifica achieves its exceptional size by having unique cellular features with two membrane sacs.

Notes:
The Delhi government has announced the setting up of India’s first e-waste eco-park. The park will be built on 20 acres of land.
At present, Delhi produces 2 lakh tonnes of e-waste every year. At the e-waste eco-park, recycling and re-manufacturing work will be done in a safe and scientific manner.
