India women’s hockey team have won bronze medal after beating former champions China. Though Savita Punia-led missed to defend their Asia Cup title, they returned with bronze.
After defeating Malaysia 9-0, India suffered a 0-2 defeat against Asian Games champions Japan. It thrashed Singapore 9-1 to qualify for the semi-finals and was beaten by Korea. Japan won the Asia Cup Title after defeating South Korea.

Notes:
North Korea has confirmed that it fired a Hwasong-12 mid-range ballistic missile. This is the first time it has tested a weapon of that size since 2017.
Japan and South Korea detected the launch of the intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), which is the seventh weapons test done by North Korea this month.

Vaccine manufacturer Bharat Biotech has received approval to conduct Phase-III clinical trials of an intranasal booster dose.
The booster dose will be administered on people who have received both doses of Covaxin. The Drug Controller General of India have approved to undertake the Phase-III trials. The nasal vaccine, BBV154, stimulates immune responses at the nose, which is the site of infection

World Leprosy Day (WLD) is observed on the last Sunday of January. In 2022, World Leprosy Day is 30 January.
The “United for Dignity” campaign calls for unity in honoring the dignity of people who have experienced leprosy. WHO Goodwill Ambassador for leprosy elimination launched “Don’t forget leprosy” campaign. In India, Anti-Leprosy Day is observed on 30 January, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Ministry of Commerce and Industry notified the second phase of the scheme for enhancement of competitiveness in the capital goods sector.
The scheme was notified with a financial outlay of ₹1,207 crore. It would consist of a budgetary support from the government of ₹975 crore and the rest of ₹232 crore would come through the industry contribution.

World Wetlands Day is observed on February 2 every year to raise awareness about their importance and the need to preserve them. On this day, the Convention on Wetlands was adopted in 1971.
World Wetlands Day 2022 is observed as a United Nations International day for the first time. The theme of World Wetlands Day this year is ‘Wetlands Action for People and Nature’.

A new scheme, Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East, PM-DevINE was announced by the Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the Union Budget 2022-23.
PM-DevINE will be implemented through the North-Eastern Council. An initial allocation of Rs. 1,500 crore will be made for the new scheme. It will fund infrastructure and social development projects based on needs of the North-East.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race, a famous event held in Alappuzha of Kerala, is set to be held in Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this year.
The race will be held in the month of March in partnership with International Marine Sports Club Ras Al Khaimah at the Al Marjan Island, UAE. The name of the water race was set after Jawaharlal Nehru’s visit to Kerala Boat Race in 1952.

US President Joe Biden signed into law a bill titled, “Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Act”, to provide recognition to the ‘Ghost Army’.
It is a tactical deception unit deployed by the US during World War II. There are just nine surviving veterans of the Ghost Army across the US. The Congressional Gold Medal is the Congress’s highest award of national appreciation for distinguished contributions.

China and Russia “No limits” partnership, backing each other over standoffs on Ukraine and Taiwan. They also promised to collaborate more against the West.
This was declared President Xi Jinping hosted President Vladimir Putin on the opening day of the Winter Olympics at Beijing. The countries also agreed to work together on space, climate change, artificial intelligence and control of the internet.
