India launched DHRUV64, the country’s first 1.0 GHz, 64-bit dual-core microprocessor, fully developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the Microprocessor Development Programme. DHRUV64 aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported processors and supports both strategic and commercial applications. The processor features modern architectural enhancements for improved efficiency, multitasking, and reliability, and integrates seamlessly with hardware for applications like 5G, automotive systems, consumer electronics, industrial automation, and the Internet of Things. India contributes nearly 20% to global microprocessor production, highlighting the importance of indigenous chip development.

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi have developed an ingestible device that can directly sample bacteria from the small intestine. The innovation helps overcome limitations of current methods like endoscopy or stool analysis, which do not accurately reflect upper gut conditions. The pill-sized device remains closed in the stomach and opens only in the intestine to collect bacterial samples, then reseals safely. It uses an enteric-coated gelatin cap that dissolves at intestinal pH, allowing fluid and microbes to enter sampling chambers. The study was conducted in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi and funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

A new species of snakehead fish has been discovered and named Channa bhoi. It was found in a small mountain stream near Iewmawlong village in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya. The species is named to honour the indigenous Bhoi community of the Khasi tribe living in Ri-Bhoi. It belongs to the Gachua group of snakehead fishes, a group rich in species diversity in the Eastern Himalayan region.

Switzerland is ranked the world’s most resilient country for investors in 2025, according to Henley & Partners and AlphaGeo Global Investment Risk and Resilience Index. Switzerland scored 88.42 overall, with a risk score of 9.1 (low risk) and resilience score of 85.94 (high resilience), driven by innovation, governance, and social stability. Singapore is the only Asian country in the top 10, ranking 4th, with the lowest legal and regulatory risk globally. India ranks 104th with a total investment risk and resilience score of 54.42, showing moderate resilience (resilience score 49.76) but elevated risks. India’s high risk profile is due to uncertain political, legal, and regulatory environments, combined with exposure to physical climate hazards.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting to set up the Bureau of Port Security (BoPS) for securing vessels and port facilities, attended by the Ministers of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Civil Aviation. It shall be constituted a statutory body under Section 13 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2025, modelled on the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). It functions under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) and oversee regulatory and security functions for ships and port facilities. The Bureau will be led by an IPS officer (Pay Level-15) as Director General.

United States (US) and Jordan launched Operation Hawkeye Strike in Syria after an ISIS attack in Palmyra killed two US soldiers and injured others. The operation involved overnight airstrikes on more than 70 ISIS targets using precision-guided weapons. The objective was to weaken ISIS fighters, weapons stockpiles, and infrastructure, disrupting future attacks. It aimed to send a strong deterrent message to terror groups and reaffirm the US policy of security through strength. The joint mission also highlighted US–Jordan military cooperation and commitment to regional counter-terrorism efforts.

Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team won the Asia Cup 2025, defeating India by 191 runs in the final held in Dubai. India, chasing a target of 348 runs, were bowled out for 156 runs in 26.2 overs. Pakistan batted first, scoring 347 runs for 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Sameer Minhas was named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament. The victory marks Pakistan’s dominance at the Under-19 level in Asia, highlighting emerging young talent.

India and the Netherlands signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on developing the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat. National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is a flagship project of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) to showcase India’s 4,500–5,000-year-old maritime legacy. It is located in Lothal, near Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It will be India’s first comprehensive national institution dedicated exclusively to maritime heritage.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) inducted its first Pollution Control Vessel (PCV), Samudra Pratap, at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). Samudra Pratap is the first indigenously designed and built PCV of the ICG. The vessel was formally delivered during an induction ceremony. It is equipped with a 30 millimetre CRN-91 gun and two 12.7 millimetre stabilised remote-controlled guns with integrated fire control systems. The vessel has over 60% indigenous content, supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. Samudra Pratap will aid marine pollution control, maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and protection of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
