Former US President Barack Obama has retained his position at the most admired man in the world as per an international survey carried out by YouGov.
For this survey, 42,000 people from 38 countries were asked who they admired most. Bill Gates is in second spot among men while Chinese President Xi Jinping is on third place. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was listed as 8th most admired man. Among women, Michelle Obama bagged the top spot.

Veteran American Black feminist author Bell hooks, passed away at the age of 69.
Her famous works include “Ain’t I a Woman? Black Women and Feminism,” in which she examined the impact of sexism and racism on Black women. She also argued for a more inclusive movement, and focussed the impact of racism within feminism.

The Centre has given ‘in-principle’ approval to set up six nuclear power reactors at Jaitapur in Maharashtra.
The six nuclear power reactors, which will have a capacity of 1,650 MW each, will be established with technical cooperation from France. It will be India’s largest nuclear power generating site with a total capacity of 9,900 MW.

‘Arabic Calligraphy: Knowledge, Skills and Practices’ has been officially added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This was done after collaboration between 15 Arab countries, led by Saudi Arabia and under the supervision of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization. The calligraphy has contributed to the transfer and spread of Arab culture.

The new generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile ‘Agni P (Prime)’ was successfully test-fired from Odisha coast.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation said that ‘Agni P’ is a two-stage canisterised solid propellant ballistic missile. This was the second test of the Agni Prime missile, with the first test in June this year. The surface-to-surface ballistic missile has a range of 1,000 to 2,000 km.

PANEX-21 is a trans-national, multi-agency exercise, which aims to develop capabilities in disaster management aspects for the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) countries.
The exercise was recently organised at the College of Military Engineering in Pune. The BIMSTEC regional organisation comprises Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand, besides India.

Vedanta Limited has acquired Goa-based Nicomet, a leading nickel and cobalt producer. With this, Vedanta has become the only nickel-producer in the country.
Nickel is a key raw material used in the manufacturing of stainless steel and batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). Currently, India imports 100 percent of its nickel requirements.

Nagaland government has created three new districts in the state- Tseminyu, Niuland and Chumukedima, taking the total number of districts to 15.
The Governor of Nagaland Jagdish Mukhi announced the Tseminyu subdivision under Kohima district, Niuland subdivision under Dimapur district, and Chumukedima sub-division into three new districts.

As per the data given by Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, 600 elephants have died due to electrocution across the country between 2009 and 2019.
Of this, 117 deaths have taken place in Odisha, 116 in Karnataka and 105 in Assam. Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Maharashtra are the only states which recorded zero elephant deaths due to electrocution.

As per UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Afghanistan is the top producer of Opium poppy.  By 2021, Afghanistan’s harvest will account for more than 90% of worldwide illegal heroin production.
Since 2001, the country has been the world’s biggest illicit drug producer. Afghanistan produced around 6,800 tonnes of opium during the previous harvest season, which concluded in July. This was an increase of 8% from 2020.
