Avinash Sable finished seventh in 3000m steeplechase event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He took 8 minutes 18.12 seconds (8:18.12s) to finish the race and set a national record by breaking his own record of 8:20.20s  that he set during the Federation Cup in March. He became the first Indian after 1952 to qualify for the Olympics in 3000m steeplechase event.
Avinash Sable belongs to Beed district of Maharashtra.

CSIR- Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh developed a personal reading machine “Divya Nayan” for visually impaired people. In this device, any printed or digital document can be accessed in the form of speech output. The device can analyse a multi column document and provide seamless reading on the basis of principle of contact scanning. User can place the device over the document to be read and manually scan it. The image is converted into text, text is converted to speech and audio with the help of language dependent optical character.
Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) was established by the Government of India in September 1942. It is an autonomous body and has emerged as the largest research and development organisation in India. Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India is its parent organisation. The institute was founded by Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar.

The tenure of India as a non-permanent of the UN Security Council began on January 1,2021. On August 1, 2021 India took over the UN Security Council Presidency for the month of August. The August presidency will be India’s first presidency as a non-permanent member. India will again preside over the council in December 2022 which is the last month of its two-year tenure. France was the immediate predecessor of India in the UN Security Council Presidency. This is India’s tenth tenure as a president.
United Nations is an intergovernmental organization that aims to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation and help in harmonizing the actions of nations.
UN was founded on 24th October, 1945. Antonio Guterres is the current security general of UN.

Tony Abbott has been appointed as the special trade envoy of Australian Prime Minister for his visit to India. He has been appointed with a purpose to deepen trade and investment links that will help drive post-covid recovery. The main focus of the proposed meeting will be on the building of ‘secure and resilient supply chains’.
Tony Abbott was the former Prime Minister of Australia. He was appointed as the 28th Prime Minister of Australia from 2013-2015.

Nelliyode Vasudevan Namboothiri was a Kathakali artist. He belonged to Kerala. He was known for his vibrant portrayal of the evil chuvanna thaadi roles of the classical Kathakali dance-drama from Kerala. He was a scholar in Sanskrit and Hindu Puranas and was a recipient of several awards including Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award, Kerala State Kathakali Prize etc.
Kathakali is a Hindu performance art in the Malayalam-speaking southwestern region of Kerala and one of the major classical dance form of India.

“Delhi@2047” initiative was launched recently by Arvind Kejriwal. The aim of this initiative is to build partnerships with the private sector, CSR initiatives and  philanthropic organisations to achieve the vision for Delhi by 2047 and make Delhi as the Global city in the world. The main objectives under this initiative are Increasing Delhi’s per capita income to Singapore’s level, Providing 24*7 water supply before the upcoming elections, to bid for the 2048 Olympics, making roads as per the European standards and many other facilities.

Khalid Mansoor has been appointed as the chief of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority. He replaced Asim Saleem Bajwa. Khalid Mansoor has more than 30 years of experience in energy and petrochemical sectors. He has a good knowledge about execution, management and operations related to mega-projects.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a collection of infrastructure projects that are under construction in the regions of Pakistan and China.  It was established on 22 May, 2013.

Notes:
India’s largest and most complex warship “INS Vikrant” began its sea trials on August 4, 2021. It is the first indigenous aircraft carrier of India. Its weight is about 40,000 tonne and this is the maiden sea trials of INS Vikrant. It is constructed by the  Cochin Shipyard Limited for the Indian Navy. It was launched in 2013. The meaning of Vikrant is “Courageous”.
The motto of the ship is “Jayema Sam Yudhi Sprdhah”. The meaning of the phrase is “I defeat those who fight against me”. The phrase is taken from the Rigveda.

The Eighth Meeting of Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States will be held on 6th August, 2021 and it will be attended by Kiren Rijiju who is the Union Minister of Law & Justice. The Ministers of (Law and) Justice and senior officials/experts from the Ministries of Law & Justice of India, China, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Russian Federation and Uzbekistan will be participating in the Meeting.

Notes:
The Government of India, the Central Water Commission, government representatives from 10 participating states and the World Bank has signed a $250 million project for long-term dam safety program and improving the safety and performance of existing dams across various states of India. The project will be implemented in approximately 120 dams across the states of Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Odisha, Manipur, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan and at the national level through the Central Water Commission (CWC).
