Notes:
A recent study led by team from the department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics (MRDG), at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), found that Pollutants like microplastics may be causing growth defects in fish in the Cauvery River.
The study revealed that microplastics may cause growth defects in fish, including skeletal deformities. The researchers detected microplastics and toxic chemicals, using a technique called Raman spectroscopy.

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the “Svanidhi se Samriddhi” programme in 126 additional cities across 14 states and Union territories.
“Svanidhi se Samriddhi”, an additional programme of PM Svanidhi, was launched last year in 125 cities under the first phase, covering around 35 lakh street vendors and their families. PM Svanidhi aims at providing an affordable working capital loan to street vendors.

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi launched the ‘Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), the ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ program, under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
Approved in 2018, it aims to transform selected districts and help 2.78 lakh rural local bodies achieve sustainable development goals. The Union Cabinet approved a financial outlay of Rs 5,911 crore for the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA). It approved the continuation of the centrally sponsored scheme from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2026.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) notified the exemption from Customs duty and Agriculture Infrastructure development Cess for import of cotton.
This exemption would benefit the textile chain- yarn, fabric, garments and made ups and provide relief to textile industry and consumers. Industry has been demanding for removal of 5% Basic Customs Duty (BCD) and 5% Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC) on raw cotton.

India is the host of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2022 and the event will be held across three venues – Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai.
The draw for the tournament will be held in Zurich on June 24. Host India and six other countries – Brazil, Chile, China PR, Colombia, Japan and New Zealand have been confirmed for the competition so far.

Team India and Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma has become the second Indian batter to complete 10,000 runs in T20 cricket for men.
Virat Kohli became the first Indian batter to score 10,000 T20 runs last year while West Indies legend Chris Gayle was the first cricketer in the world to reach the five-figure mark in T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma achieved this historic milestone during the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

In the field of finance related to merger and acquisition, limited-duration shareholder rights plan is also known as a “Poison pill”.
Recently, in response to Elon Musk’s take-over bid, Twitter has adopted “poison pill”, which allows existing shareholders to purchase freshly issued shares in a company at a discount to the trading price. This will in turn make buyout plan extremely expensive and complicated.

Lieutenant General Manoj Pande appointed the new Chief of Army Staff and he will succeed General M M Naravane.
The Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Pande is the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to become the COAS. He has commanded the Operation Parakram in the Pallanwala Sector of Jammu and Kashmir, along the Line of Control. He has been conferred with the award of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Chief of Army Staff Commendation etc.

The National Security Council Secretariat is organising National Cyber Security Incident Response Exercise (NCX India) for government officials.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval inaugurated the National Cyber Security Incident Response Exercise. The participants will be trained on various key cyber security areas such as Malware Information Sharing Platform (MISP), Vulnerability Handling & Penetration Testing, Network, Digital Forensics, among others.

Skill India, in association with the Directorate General of Training (DGT), is organising a day-long ‘Apprenticeship Mela’ across the country in more than over 700 locations.
The initiative aims to support hiring of more than one lakh apprentices. It will assist employers in hiring the right talent and develop it further with training and providing practical skill-sets.
