Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be preented with the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award at the 80th annual Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards ceremony.
The award was instituted in the memory and honour of singer Lata Mangeshkar who passed away at the age of 92 years. The award will be given every year to an individual who has made exemplary contributions to our nation, its people and our society.

Tamil Nadu assembly adopted a resolution urging the Union government to drop the proposal of CUET (Central Universities Common Entrance Test). As per the resolution, the CUET similar to NEET sidelined the marginalised students.
The University Grants Commission announced that from the academic year 2022-2023, admissions to various courses in all central universities would be done only through CUET, to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The ‘Forbes’ 36th annual World’s Billionaires List’ of 2022 was released recently. It listed 2,668 billionaires of the world, including 236 newcomers, which fell from last year’s 493.
Elon Musk tops the World’s Billionaires ranking for the first time ever, with an estimated net worth of USD 219 billion. Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault followed Musk. This year also marked the largest number of Billionaire Drop-off’s since the 2009 Financial Crisis.

As per a new report, the Weija dam, which provides 80 per cent of the drinking water supply of Ghana’s capital, Accra, is prone to flooding.
‘Ghana: Roadmap for resilient infrastructure in a changing climate’ has been prepared by the Ghanaian government with assistance from various United Nations agencies. The report noted that 54 per cent of dams assessed are exposed to floods and 23 per cent to droughts by 2050.

India and the USA finalized signing of a new Space Situational Awareness arrangement, during the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue being held at Washington.
The United States and India finalized major bilateral initiatives on information-sharing, liaison exchanges, and joint service engagements to support high-end, combined operations.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) revised down its forecast for global trade growth in 2022-23 to 3% from 4.7%.
The slash is because of the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war. WTO also warned of a potential food crisis caused by surging prices. It also forecasted that the global trade growth in 2023 would rise up to 3.4%.

Union Minister for Shipping and Ports Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Waterways conclave in Assam’s Dibrugarh.
The conclave was organised to pave way for increased cooperation with neighbouring countries in waterways sector. Ministers from Bhutan and Bangladesh participated in the conclave.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced in the Legislative Assembly that the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar on April 14 would be celebrated as ‘Equality Day’ from this year.
The Chief Minister said that a pledge would also be taken across the state on the day. The government also plans to translate and publish some of the selected books of Ambedkar in Tamil.

The birth anniversary of Mahavir, the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism is celebrated as Mahavir Jayanti by Jains across the world.
This year, Mahavir Jayanti falls on April 14. Jains obey the five principles conveyed by Mahavir namely: Ahimsa, Satya, Astaya, Brahmacharya, and Aparigraha.

Notes:
Punjab slipped into a power crisis due to shortage of Coal. Against the installed capacity of 5,680 MW of thermal power plants, only 3150 MW power is being generated.
Several power plants including Talwandi Sabo power plant and that at Goindwal Sahib were operating at reduced load or shut down with no coal to operate it.
