A recent study led by team from the department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics (MRDG), at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), found that Pollutants like microplastics may be causing growth defects in fish in the Cauvery River.
The study revealed that microplastics may cause growth defects in fish, including skeletal deformities. The researchers detected microplastics and toxic chemicals, using a technique called Raman spectroscopy.

Indian Army marks Siachen Day on April 13 every year, to commemorate the courage of the Indian Army under “Operation Meghdoot”.
In 1984m the Indian army gained control over the dominating heights on the main passes of the Saltoro ridge, Sia La and Bilafond La. The Siachen Glacier is the highest battleground on earth while both India and Pakistan maintain permanent military presence in the region

Amid growing global criticism over its zero-Covid policy, China defended its strict coronavirus measures that have resulted in hardship in several Chinese cities.
The global financial hub Shanghai is claimed to be worse hit by the strict measures. Earlier, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China said Covid lockdowns have caused significant disruptions for many companies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to former Tanzanian president Julius Nyerere on his 100th birth anniversary.
Nyerere, who was born on April 13, 1922 and passed away on October 14, 1999, was a Tanzanian anti-colonial activist. He served as the President of Tanzania from 1964 to 1985.

April 14 is observed as World Chagas Day every year, to raise awareness about a life-threatening disease also called American trypanosomiasis.
The disease is caused by a parasite Trypanosoma crizu. This parasite is transmitted to humans through the triatomine bug which is also known as the kissing bug. It can cause serious heart and digestive issues. World Chagas Disease Day was first observed on April 14, 2020.

Team India and Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma has become the second Indian batter to complete 10,000 runs in T20 cricket for men.
Virat Kohli became the first Indian batter to score 10,000 T20 runs last year while West Indies legend Chris Gayle was the first cricketer in the world to reach the five-figure mark in T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma achieved this historic milestone during the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its first Long Range Forecast (LRF) for this year that the country is likely to receive a normal monsoon for the fourth consecutive year.
Rainfall in the June-September southwest monsoon season was in the normal range in 2019, 2020, and 2021 as well. The IMD maintains five rainfall distribution categories on an all-India scale. These are: normal, below normal, above normal Deficient Excess in relation to a benchmark “long period average” (LPA).

Egypt, one of the top importers of wheat from Russia and Ukraine, has approved India as a wheat supplier, as per Commerce Ministry.
This comes amid a dip in global wheat production because of the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia and Ukraine accounted for nearly one-third of global wheat exports. Before the war, Egypt imported wheat worth nearly USD 2 billion from Russia and USD 611 million from Ukraine every year. Egypt imported about 1 million tonne of wheat from India.

The Horn of Africa, also known as the Somali Peninsula, is a large peninsula in East Africa. It is located on the eastern part of the Africa.
Recently, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development said that the people in the region is preparing for their most severe drought in 40 years. Rains will likely fail for a fourth consecutive year, triggering increased cases of malnutrition, threats to livelihoods and severe risks for 29 million people in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Sikhs, on the occasion of Khalsa Saajna Diwas, which marks the anniversary of the beginning of Khalsa Panth.
Recently, a group of 1,949 Sikh pilgrims left for Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib in Pakistan to participate in the religious congregation to be held on the occasion of Khalsa Sajna Diwas.
