The joint Military Exercise Maitree-2019 between India and Thailand is being conducted at Foreign Training Node, Umroi (Meghalaya) from 16-29 Sep 2019. Its aim is to share experience gained during various counter terrorism operations in their respective countries.

The Uttarakhand government has recently launched Mukhyamantri Dal Poshit Yojana (MDPY)  to provide low-priced pulses for poor in the State. As per scheme, two kg of pulses at subsidised rates  would be made available to 23.32 lakh ration card holders every month. The Chana dal (chick peas split) is being made available at a rate of Rs 44 per kg / month. The current market rate of this pulse is Rs 65 to 70 per kg.

In Badminton, Sourabh Verma clinched the men’s singles title at the 2019 Vietnam Open Super 100 title  at the Ho Chi Minh City. He defeated China’s Sun Fei Xiang in a thrilling summit clash by 21-12, 17-2, 21-14. This victory marks Verma’s second Super 100 win in the ongoing calendar year. He had won the Hyderabad Open earlier in August.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh has been conferred the Dr Kalam Smriti International Excellence Award 2019 in Dhaka for her vision of a peaceful and prosperous South Asia, free of tension, conflicts and terrorism. It acknowledged her contribution to fostering cooperation between India and Bangladesh. The award has been instituted in the memory of former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It is given every year to honour statesmen or leaders who have shown excellence in their fields to achieve the best for their countries

It traces the journey of Narendra Modi from his days as a young boy from Vadnagar in Gujarat to New Delhi’s 7, Lok Kalyan Marg as the 14th prime minister of India. It is replete with anecdotes from family, friends, colleagues, associates, testimonials of leaders from India and the world across party lines.

Vinesh Phogat has become the first Indian wrestler to qualify for 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 53-kg category after beating American Sarah Hildebrandt in the World Championships in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan on 18th September 2019. She scored an impressive 8-2 win over the world championship silver medalist to secure her place at the Tokyo Games.

The book titled “The Cousins Thackeray: Uddhav, Raj and the Shadow of their Senas” is written by journalist-author Dhaval Kulkarni.  The book is a deep-dive narrative into the history of the Thackeray family, life and times of their grandfather, social reformer-author Prabodhankar Thackeray, and the childhood and political careers of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray. It also examines questions about identity politics, and the social, cultural and economic matrix that catalyzed the formation of the Shiv Sena and the MNS from it.

The Airtel Payments Bank has launched the Bharosa Savings Account to deepen the financial inclusion in the country. It has been designed to serve the unique needs of under-banked and unbanked population of India. The account offers free Personal Accident Insurance cover worth Rs 5 Lakhs on maintaining a balance of just Rs 500 along with one debit transaction per month. Customers will be also eligible for cashback – if they decide to receive government subsidies in their Bharosa Account or if they make cash deposits in it.

The Himachal Pradesh government has launched Mukhya  Mantri Seva Sankalp Helpline 1100 for speedy and time-bound redressal of public grievances. The helpline will function 6 days a week (Monday-Saturday) from 7 am to 10 pm.

On 16th September 2019, the first-ever trilateral naval exercise titled ‘SITMEX’ involving the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), Royal Thailand Navy (RTN) and Indian Navy (IN) commenced at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The aim of the 5-day exercise is to bolster the maritime inter-relationships amongst Singapore, Thailand and India, and contribute significantly to enhance the overall maritime security in the region.
