Pakal Dul Project

Pakal Dul project is a hydroelectric power project being built on the Marusudar River which is a tributary of the Chenab River. This 1,000 MW project is located in Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan had expressed objections to the project under the Indus Treaty during the meeting of the Indus Commissioners from both sides. Pakistan lies downstream of the Chenab River and views the project as a violation of the 1960 treaty.
