National Ayurveda Day 2025

The 10th National Ayurveda Day was celebrated in 2025 at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa. The event marked a decade of efforts to promote Ayurveda as a holistic health system. Dignitaries including the Governor of Goa, Chief Minister of Goa, and Union Ministers participated. The theme, Ayurveda for People and Planet, aligned with global sustainability goals and brought into light Ayurveda’s growing global influence.

Global Recognition and Expansion

Ayurveda has expanded beyond India to over 150 countries. It is now recognised as a comprehensive healthcare system rather than just an alternative therapy. The celebration of Ayurveda Day worldwide reflects this growth. The use of digital platforms such as the NAMASTE portal and Ayush HMIS is increasing accessibility and supporting evidence-based practices.

Integration with Modern Medicine

A key development is the establishment of the Integrative Oncology Unit at AIIA Goa, in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre. This initiative blends Ayurvedic and modern oncology for holistic cancer care. Such integration aims to improve patient outcomes by combining traditional knowledge with modern science.

Ayurveda and Sustainability

The theme emphasises Ayurveda’s role in planetary health. It promotes natural living and the preservation of medicinal plants, especially those found in Goa’s Western Ghats and coastal ecosystems. Conservation and commercial cultivation of these plants are vital for environmental sustainability and regional economic growth.

Preventive Healthcare and Lifestyle Management

Ayurveda offers sustainable solutions for lifestyle diseases like obesity, diabetes, and stress. Concepts such as Dinacharya (daily routine) and Ritucharya (seasonal regimen) provide frameworks for preventive care. Detoxification, balanced diets, herbal medicines, and yoga are key tools for long-term wellness.

Public Participation and Data-Driven Research

The Desh ka Swasthya Parikshan Abhiyan involved over 1.29 crore citizens in health assessments using Ayurvedic parameters. Supported by 1.8 lakh volunteers, this campaign set five Guinness World Records. It marks a shift towards integrating traditional knowledge with modern healthcare through data-driven research.

New Initiatives and Digital Platforms

Several initiatives were launched, including the DRAVYA portal for digitised Ayurvedic substances. New academic and industrial collaborations were formalised through MoUs. The Ran-Bhaji Utsav celebrated forest vegetables integral to Ayurvedic diets. Numerous publications on Ayurvedic research and innovations were also released.

Leadership and Vision

The event brought into light the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in elevating Ayurveda globally. Emphasis was placed on ethical promotion, scientific validation, and integrating Ayurveda into primary healthcare. The role of youth, researchers, and practitioners was encouraged for advancing Ayurveda sustainably.
