Indian society is unique because it has preserved cultural continuity while remaining open to change. Its civilisation has survived invasions, migrations and modernisation by absorbing new influences without losing a shared core of values.

• Composite ethos: Ideas like vasudhaiva kutumbakam and everyday syncretism have helped different faiths, languages and customs coexist and enrich one another.
• Constitutional protection: Article 51A(f) asks citizens to value heritage; Articles 29 and 30 protect minority culture and education; Article 49 directs the State to safeguard monuments.
• Living traditions: Guru-shishya parampara, festivals, folk arts and oral practices keep culture community-led and intergenerational.
• Livelihood link: GI tags, artisan support and craft-based schemes give economic value to traditional skills, making preservation sustainable.
