Indian Coast Guard Commissions Adamya-Class Fast Patrol Vessel

The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) ‘Adamya’ was commissioned at Paradip Port, Odisha on 19 September 2025. It is the first of eight Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited. This milestone marks India’s growing maritime strength and commitment to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ with over 60% indigenous content. The vessel will operate under the ICG Region (North East) from Paradip, strengthening coastal security and surveillance.

Design and Indigenous Development

ICGS Adamya is 51 metres long and displaces about 320 tons. It is propelled by two 3000 KW diesel engines enabling speeds up to 28 knots. The ship features the first indigenously developed Controllable Pitch Propellers and gearboxes. These provide superior manoeuvrability and operational flexibility. Over 60% of the ship’s components are sourced from Indian manufacturers, showcasing self-reliance in defence shipbuilding.

Operational Role and Deployment

The vessel is based at Paradip and will be controlled by Commander, ICG District Headquarters No. 7 (Odisha). It will perform maritime surveillance, coastal patrol, search and rescue, and pollution control tasks. With a crew of five officers and 34 personnel, Adamya ensures the safety and security of India’s maritime zones. Its deployment strengthens the Eastern Seaboard’s operational capabilities.

Armament and Defence Systems

ICGS Adamya is equipped with a 30 mm CRN 91 naval gun and two 12.7 mm remote-controlled machine guns. These weapons are integrated with advanced fire control systems for precision targeting. The armament enables the ship to counter threats effectively and respond to maritime security challenges.

Automation and Technological Features

The FPV includes an Integrated Bridge System for seamless navigation and control. An Integrated Platform Management System manages onboard machinery and systems efficiently. Automated Power Management enhances energy use and operational endurance. These technologies contribute to higher operational efficiency and reduced crew workload.

Strategic Importance

Adamya exemplifies India’s focus on maritime security and indigenous defence capabilities. The vessel supports the Indian Coast Guard’s mission to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests. It also reflects India’s intent to modernise and expand its coastal defence infrastructure amid evolving regional security dynamics.
