Notes:
A formal ceremony was held in the morning on 31st July, 2021 at South block, New Delhi. In this meeting, Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, AVSM, NM assumed charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff from Vice Admiral G Ashok Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC.
The new Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral SN Ghormade is an alumni of National Defence Academy (NDA). He was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 1 Jan 1984 and is a Navigation and Direction Specialist.
The Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS) is the second-highest ranking officer of the Indian Navy and the deputy to the chief of the navy. VCNS is a PSO at Naval Headquarters in New Delhi. He is responsible for naval related tasks.

Notes:
Roberto Calasso was an Italian writer and publisher. Apart from his mother tongue, he was fluent in many languages such as French, English, German, Latin, Ancient Greek, Sanskrit. He was also called as “a literary institution of one”. His books reflected his esoteric interests. He wrote on Indian and Greek mythology, the Vedic age, Kafka, Baudelaire etc.

Government of India has appointed Deepak Das as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA) of India. CGA comes under the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. Deepak Das is the 25th CGA. He is a 1986-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer. He earlier served as the Principal Chief Controller of Accounts in the Central Board of Direct Taxes. He has also been the Director of the Institute of Government Accounts and Finance (INGAF), the training academy of the Indian Civil Accounts Service.
He is an alumnus of Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi.

The Italian luxury brand ‘Bvlgari’ has appointed Priyanka Chopra Jonas as the global brand ambassador.
Bvlgari is known for its gemstone jewellery, watches, fragrances, accessories and leather goods. Priyanka Chopra Jonas will support the Roman high jewellery house and promote brand around the world. The main focus will be on themes of women empowerment, diversity and inclusion.
Bulgari / Bvlgari was founded in 1884 by Sotirios Voulgaris.  Its headquarter is located in Rome, Italy. The current CEO of this brand is Jean-Christophe Babin.

Nelliyode Vasudevan Namboothiri was a Kathakali artist. He belonged to Kerala. He was known for his vibrant portrayal of the evil chuvanna thaadi roles of the classical Kathakali dance-drama from Kerala. He was a scholar in Sanskrit and Hindu Puranas and was a recipient of several awards including Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award, Kerala State Kathakali Prize etc.
Kathakali is a Hindu performance art in the Malayalam-speaking southwestern region of Kerala and one of the major classical dance form of India.

Lovlina Borgohain became the 3rd Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom to win a bronze medal at the Olympics. She won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She belongs to Golaghat (Assam). She also won a bronze medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship and the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She is the first female athlete and second boxer from Assam to represent India in the Olympics. She became the 6th person from Assam to get the Arjuna Award.

Notes:
India’s Consumption Expenditure Survey (CES) is conducted by National Sample Survey Office every five years. But, CES data has not been released since 2011-2012. Under this survey there are clear indications that Poverty in India is on rise again. CES was conducted in the year 2017-18 but its data was not made public by the Government. A new CES is likely to be conducted in 2021-22 for which data will be available by end of 2022.

Noted Dogri author and poet Padma Sachdev died in Mumbai on 4th August, 2021 at the age of 81. She authored many books in Dogri and Hindi, and her poetry collections, including Meri Kavita Mere Geet, won her the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971. She received the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2001 and was awarded the Kabir Samman for poetry for 2007-08 by the Madhya Pradesh government.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has secured Patent registration for its innovative Plastic-mixed Handmade Paper developed to reduce plastic menace from nature. The patent certificate was issued to KVIC’s Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), Jaipur, by the Controller of Patent, Intellectual Property of India. The idea of developing plastic-mixed handmade paper was invented in September in the year 2018, and in just two months, i.e. in November 2018, the project was executed by the team of scientists at KNHPI.

Bihar’s capital city Patna is all set to get its own version of Mumbai’s famous Marine Drive. The 5.50km-long Digha-AN Sinha Institute stretch of the ambitious Ganga Pathway is all set to be opened next year. The ‘Ganga pathway’ is part of Rs 3,390 crore project which is coming up on the southern bank of river Ganga to minimise traffic on the congested Ashok Rajpath. The total length of project is 20.50km
