Sanjeev Kishore was an alumnus of Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur. He has been appointed as the new General Manager of South Western Railway (SWR). Earlier, he served as Additional Member (Production Units) of Railway Board.
He is a recipient of the National Award (Minister of Railways Award) for Meritorious Service in 2003 and a Fellow of Institutions of Engineer India and Institution of Mechanical Engineers, United Kingdom.
South Western Railway is one of the 18 Railway zones in India. It is headquartered at Hubballi in Karnataka state. It was carved out from Southern Railways and South Central Railways in 2003.

Man Kaur was an Indian track-and-field athlete. She was a Centenarian sprinter. She holds the world records in the Over-100 years old categories for many events. She won multiple Gold medals at the World Masters Athletics Championships. She got famous after winning the 100 metre sprint at the World Masters Games in Auckland in 2017. She got Nari Shakti Puraskar award at the age of 103. Pranab Mukherjee, the then president of India gave her this award. She was nicknamed as the “Miracle Mom from Chandigarh”.

Penguin Random House India published a new book “Nehru, Tibet and China” which is authored by Avtar Singh Bhasin. Avtar Singh Bhasin is also the publisher of original archival documents. The book “Nehru, Tibet and China” describes about the various details and events that took place from the Independence of India to the 1962 Indo-China war. It focuses on the Indo-China relationship as well as Tibet and its boundary issues, occupation of Tibet by China and the fleeing of the 14th Dalai Lama from Tibet to India.
Avtar Singh Bhasin served in the Ministry of External Affairs for about 30 years. He retired in 1993 as the Director of the Historical Division. He has also served in the Ministry of Defence and National Archives of India. He has written various books on South Asian Affairs like India in Sri Lanka : Between Lion & the tigers,

Forbes released Fortune 500 global list of companies on August 2, 2021.
As per the list, Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) is the highest ranked Indian company in a fiscal year ended on or before March 31, 2021. Globally, It is on 155th position. Apart from RIL, there are other Indian companies also such as Tata Motors, Indian Oil Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Rajesh Exports, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
Reliance Industries Limited is an Indian multinational conglomerate company which includes different sectors such as energy, petrochemicals, natural gas, retail, telecommunications, mass media, textiles etc. It was founded on 8 May, 1973 by Dhirubhai Ambani. Mukesh Ambani is the current CEO of Reliance Industries Limited.
Forbes is an American business magazine. It is owned by Integrated whale media investments and Forbes family. It features articles on finance, industry, investments and marketing topics. It is based in New Jersey, USA.

Nikol Pashinyan, the chairman of the Civil Contract Party has been re-appointed as the Prime Minister of Armenia. He was first appointed as the Prime Minister in 2018.
President Armen Srkissian approved Pashinyan’s candidacy for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia.
Armenia is a country in Asia. It lies in the mountainous Caucasus region between Asia and Europe. Yerevan is the capital of Armenia and  Armenian dram is its currency.

Sydney McLaughlin created a world record after winning the women’s 400-metre hurdles in 51.46 seconds at Tokyo Olympics 2020 recently. Her previous record was of 51.90 seconds. She became the first woman to finish the race before 52 seconds in an event, when she set the record of 51.90 seconds at the USA Olympic trials of 2020. She belongs to the United States of America.
At the Tokyo Olympics 2020 event of the women’s 400-metre hurdles , Dalilah Muhammad won the Silver medal and Femke Bol won the Bronze medal.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has empanelled  IndusInd Bank  as an Agency bank to RBI. It will now handle  transactions related to government business. On behalf of the state and central government, the bank can now facilitate transactions related to revenue receipts under Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and Goods and Service Tax (GST).
IndusInd Bank was established in 1994. It is headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra. Sumant Kathpalia is the current CEO & MD of IndusInd Bank.

Harpoon is an all-weather, over-the-horizon, anti-ship missile system. The United States of America has approved the sale of one Harpoon Joint Common Test Set (JCTS) along with the related equipment to India for an estimated cost of USD 82 million. This will help in improving India’s capability to meet current and future threats.
The principal contractor of the deal will be Boeing Company which is headquartered in Chicago, USA. The present CEO & President of Boeing Company is David L. Calhoun.

India’s largest and most complex warship “INS Vikrant” began its sea trials on August 4, 2021. It is the first indigenous aircraft carrier of India. Its weight is about 40,000 tonne and this is the maiden sea trials of INS Vikrant. It is constructed by the  Cochin Shipyard Limited for the Indian Navy. It was launched in 2013. The meaning of Vikrant is “Courageous”.
The motto of the ship is “Jayema Sam Yudhi Sprdhah”. The meaning of the phrase is “I defeat those who fight against me”. The phrase is taken from the Rigveda.

With the passage in Rajya Sabha, Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2021 got approval of both houses of Parliament on August 4, 2021. Earlier, on July 29, the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. The Bill paves the way for privatisation of a small loss-making airport by clubbing it with a larger airport. The amendment bill proposes to modify the definition of a major airport under the AERA Act 2008. The objective is to pair the smaller non-profitable airports with profitable airports as a combination/package to bidders to make it a viable combination for investment under PPP (public-private partnership) mode.
