December 18, 2009: Gomant Vibhushan Award, Goa: Anil Kakodkar
Former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) & India’s renowned nuclear scientist Dr Anil Kakodkar has been declared the recipient of the first prestigious Gomant Vibhushan award. His role in shaping the country’s nuclear policy and forging the Indo-US nuclear pact was recognised with this award.

Fr Dr Jacob John has been selected for Fr George Kolath award for the best ‘Pranic Healer of the Year-2009 Awardby Pranic Healing Foundation Kerala.

December18, 2009: International Green Apple Award (Silver medal) BALCO
Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) Ltd has been conferred the silver medal in the International Green Apple Award for the Best Environmental Practice 2009 for drastically reducing perfluorocarbon emission during starting up of the aluminium electrolysis pots.

December18, 2009: Haryana Vigyan Ratna award : R K Kohli
R K Kohli, Chairperson, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been seleted by Department of Science and Technology, Haryana for Haryana Vigyan Ratna award for the year 2008-09.

December 22, 2009: FIFA World Player of the Year award : Lionel Messi
Barcelona star soccer player Lionel Messi is named FIFA World Player of the Year.

December 30, 2009: Lokmanya Tilak Journalist Award 2009: N Ram
The Lokmanya Tilak Journalist Award for 2009 will be conferred upon N Ram, the Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Hindu’, ‘Frontline’, ‘Business Line’ and ‘The Sportstar’. The award is instituted by Kesari-Mahratta Trust, and founded by Lokmanya Tilak in 1881, for excellence in journalism is given to a personality whose contribution is of national importance.

December 30, 2009: National Environmental Science Academy -Scientist of the Year Award :Dr Riaz Ahmad
National Environmental Science Academy has selected for Scientist of the Year Award, Aligarh Muslim University’s Zoology lecturer Dr Riaz Ahmad for his contributions in the area of biochemical and molecular genetics. The award recognizes his important contribution in ‘asphyxia-related switch over’ and ‘down regulation of ATPase Activity’ in several Airbreathing Organ (ABO) possessing freshwater fishes.

Dr Ahmad is also the recipient of prestigious Young Scientist Project of DST and D D S Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship from UGC.

December 31, 2009: Assam Valley literary award, 2009 : Imran Shah
Eminent novelist, poet, playwright and lyricist Imran Shah has been chosen for the 20th Assam Valley literary award for the year 2009 in recognition of his literary excellence.
