China’s anti-monopoly rules

China’s new anti-monopoly rules were unveiled recently by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) amid the government’s crackdown of anti-competitive behaviour of big firms like Alibaba and JD.com. The rules sought to curb these e-commerce giants from abusing their dominance in the domestic market. Under these rules, e-commerce platforms are banned from indulging in certain behaviours like forcing vendors to deal exclusively with these companies.
